About The Position

Provides the highly skilled, discipline specific technical skills needed for the successful installation, and maintenance of the staging elements for assigned Entertainment venues, projects, or events, to ensure highest levels of show quality and a positive guest experience. Serves as a Lead, with the ability to train others. Supports management in directing and coordinating activities of the technical entertainment department and team members. Responsible for the appropriate implementation of all policies and procedures for the assigned area and team, as defined by Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.

Requirements

  • Technical school, College or University technical theater program is preferred.
  • Required 5 plus years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline; preferred prior experience within the professional theme park, theater, corporate event, and/or film/tv industries in a technical capacity (rigging and staging), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Valid Florida Driver’s License is required to operate company vehicles.
  • UO provides annual training which is required for heavy equipment operation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL (if required).
  • Accountable to strictly adhere to all policies and procedures, as defined by the Entertainment Department, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.
  • This position will be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions and will need to access building rooftops via fixed ladders & open staircases. 
  • This position will need to have an advanced understanding of ESTA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Leads crews in daily tasks as assigned by management. Actively reinforces company safety guidelines and programs, reports non-compliance. Monitors and adheres to the care, condition, use and storage of tools, equipment and other UO property. Maintains material inventories while planning and delegating work assignments among crewmembers. Communicates performance expectations to ensure proper completion of tasks and provides feedback for recognition and performance improvement.  Will act as the OJT trainer for new and current employees.  Assesses Hazards associated with staging equipment or systems. Determines mitigations with the team and ensures implementation. Completes all documentation and communicates with leadership. 
  • Communicates resource needs to complete the task to management, while providing two-way communications between work teams and other management personnel. Communicates and coordinates with other departments or vendors as needed.
  • Responsible for proper inventory, maintenance, and inspection of technical elements & equipment.  Submits proper paperwork for daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspections for all life safety gear, heavy equipment, vehicles, rigging, and staging equipment. Responsible for planning a rotation schedule for equipment to ensure proper timing of needed inspections. While maintaining inventory for upcoming projects.
  • Provides management with tracking information on completed/ongoing repairs, labor, and material usage. Progress and/or delay with installations, strike, and operational concerns.
  • Operation of heavy equipment which includes forklifts, extending boom forklifts and aerial work platforms.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
