About The Position

Venture Global LNG (“Venture Global”) is a long-term, low-cost provider of American-produced liquefied natural gas. The company’s Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global’s modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost. We are seeking a leader to join us as a Lead Materials Specialist. The Lead Materials Specialist is responsible for the specification, selection, and technical oversight of piping materials for large-scale industrial projects, with a strong preference for experience in U.S.-based LNG production facilities. This role supports engineering design, procurement, fabrication, and construction activities, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. This position will be located in Houston, TX. Travel may be required depending on project location. This is an in-office position Monday-Friday schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in piping and materials engineering
  • Strong knowledge of piping codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, API, and PIP).
  • Proficiency in material identification and selection.
  • Strong knowledge of Cesar II and pipe stress analysis reports for all common systems of piping.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor teams.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with construction and installation practices.
  • Understanding of project management principles.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with LNG projects is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of AIV and FIV principles and screening is preferred
  • Proficiency in development of piping material class specifications
  • Strong knowledge in NDE and testing requirements of piping components is preferred
  • Proficiency in valve application and specification
  • Proficiency in design review software like SmartPlant Review and Navisworks is preferred.
  • Experience with international projects and multicultural teams is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the entire piping materials team and scope on assigned projects, including work done in overseas offices.
  • Responsible for all material subsections of the piping discipline including material specifications, specialty items, material take-off, and material requisitioning from beginning to final issue.
  • Develop, oversee, and ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Track and report progress during project execution.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify scope and objectives.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to third party suppliers and contractors regarding material selection and proposed substitutions and deviations.
  • Develop and maintain piping material specifications, classes, and datasheets for LNG and related facilities.
  • Provide technical expertise in material selection for piping systems, including carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and specialty materials.
  • Ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASTM, API, MSS, NFPA59A).
  • Review and approve vendor documents, material submittals, and technical deviations on assigned projects and support existing facilities .
  • Ensure the check and release of various piping deliverables/documents for use by downstream parties.
  • Support procurement by preparing and finalizing material requisitions and evaluating supplier bids.
  • Interface with stress analysis, process, mechanical, and construction teams to ensure material compatibility and constructability.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Conduct failure analysis and recommend corrective actions when required
  • Participate in design reviews, and constructability assessments
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Supervise, mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers.
  • Conduct regular design reviews and ensure alignment across disciplines.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment.
  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, process safety) to ensure seamless integration in relation to piping materials.
  • Review and approve vendor drawings.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOP studies, and project presentations as applicable.
  • Address technical queries and manage design changes effectively.
  • Implement quality control measures and conduct regular design audits.
  • Ensure deliverables meet project and regulatory standards.
  • Address any issues or risks that could impact project delivery
