This is responsible work involving supervision of all senior center programs, activities, and Office on Aging staff at a multipurpose activity center for mature adults. The person in this position reports to the Senior Center Division Manager. Job Description: BUDGETED SALARY: $22.00/HOUR EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Supervising and evaluation of performance of Office on Aging staff; Delegating, directing, and supporting the daily operations of a senior activity center; Responsible for volunteer recruitment and management; Supervising participants of any job-training programs assigned to the center; Delegation of tasks to staff and volunteers; Program planning, including class scheduling, catalog development, health, educational, recreational, and nutrition activities in the center; Publicizing of center classes and special events; Responding to walk-in and telephone inquiries about services, making referrals to other Office on Aging programs as necessary, managing member issues related to membership and behavioral requirements; Managing class registration process for the site and assisting participants with class and event registration; Managing a positive working relationship with contracted instructors and vendors, oversight and as needed, performing duties associated with set-up of the center’s meal service program; Responding to members needing emergency assistance by calling 911 and contacting emergency contacts, submitting Supervisor Incident Reports as required; Oversight of and assisting with maintaining member and class registration records; Oversight of and assisting with performing data entry and data collection for required state and federal nutrition and health promotion reports; Composing professional letters, emails, and program flyers as needed, creating and maintaining spreadsheets, Acting as a liaison between the point person for various senior center activities or groups within the center; Identifying and reporting maintenance or facility problems, providing coverage at other senior activity centers as needed, attending meetings, trainings and community outreach events; Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Basic knowledge of physical and psychological changes associated with aging and the needs and capacities of older adults. An ability to plan, organize and direct a diversified program of recreational, wellness, education, and socialization activities for older adults. Ability to train and supervise paid staff and volunteers; maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to remain calm and professional under stress. Excellent organization and time-management skills. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with the public, seniors, and staff, including at public gatherings. Basic Word and Excel computer skills are required; basic knowledge of other Microsoft Office Suite programs and agency-specific computer programs is preferred. Work is primarily active or physical in nature with intermittent periods of sitting, walking, and standing. Physical work may include room set-up (stacking chairs, moving tables), and lifting/carrying equipment or supplies associated with kitchen and nutrition program tasks; lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be involved.
