Planned Parenthood Arizona services include an emphasis on family planning and reproductive health care, including the provision of birth control and comprehensive contraceptive counseling, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing, counseling and referral, HIV testing, annual exams, abortion care and more. In addition, PPAZ focuses on providing medically accurate sexuality education and training services throughout the state. The employee whose signature appears above agrees to be accountable for the ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES listed below; other duties may be assigned: GENERAL PRIORITIES • Perform blood draws, start and maintain IVs, administer injections including vaccines, provide medications, contraceptives and TB testing. • Perform patient vital signs and lab tests including weight, blood pressure, hematocrit, Rh factor, pulse, temperature and pregnancy test. • Begin and monitor intravenous flow of medication(s). • Administer sedation, monitor patient vital signs during procedural sedation, and effectively recognize and communicate complications of procedural sedation to surgical team including physician. • Assist patient during surgical procedure with emotional and physical support. • Monitor vital signs, bleeding and pain during recovery until patient is stable for discharge. Educate Patient: • Appropriate preoperative and postoperative care and proper use of birth control as well as directions for medications dispensed. Dispense and administer medications per physician and/or clinician's orders. • Provide patient contraceptive counseling and abortion counseling. • Ensure emergency supplies and equipment are well stocked and operational. Administer emergency care at physician's instruction. • Set up recovery room prior to beginning of clinic and assist in breakdown and clean up following clinic. • Rotate among clinical sites performing abortion for purposes of staffing and training. Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgery. • Monitor birth control supplies, medications and forms and advise appropriate staff when orders are needed. • Participate in training of surgical staff. Participate in quality improvement activities including simulation. • Communicate in an effective and timely fashion, both in written and verbal formats, with patients and staff including but not limited to HCAs, RNs, CMs, NPs, physicians, Medical Director, and VP of Patient services. • Complete appropriate documentation including but not limited to charting of patient care provided, vital statistics forms, and mandatory reports as indicated. DIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES Resource RN (rotating responsibility, responsible for all centers) • Respond to all clinical calls from call center, both AB and FP patients. Return patient calls in timely fashion and advise as indicated. Follow up with provider when warranted. • Call AB patients from all sites for follow up as desired by patients. • Follow up on all abnormal lab results received during the day of duty, calling the patient to notify them of the result and follow up if needed, and working with the appropriate provider to prescribe/arrange treatment as indicated. • Act as “3rd RN” when present on AB days, with goal of improving flow and patient experience in AB clinics. • Assist in administrative and quality improvement projects as assigned by the Medical Director. • Critical to this role, employee must exercise discretion in acquiring and disseminating confidential and proprietary information including any patient PHI acquired physically and or electronically. Lead RN Responsibilities: • Creates the daily/weekly/monthly schedule of all RNs • Serves as nursing resource for all RNs • Works with Medical Director, VP of Patient Services, and Director of Medical Operations to implement any new policies as a result of MS&G, ADHS, or operations updates. Participates in the Medical Management Team. • Coordinates and ensures timely completion of abortion related medical chart audits including: ICA, ABP, Sedation, AB follow-up, etc. Participates in the QA committee. • Assists & provides feedback regarding hiring, training and evaluation of RNs in conjunction with the Medical Director. • Oversees conscious sedation program, assuring appropriate education, training and monitoring of all licensed staff. • Provides and/or coordinates in-services, meetings and training for new and current nursing staff and ensures documentation of training is completed up-to-date and submitted to Human Resources for tracking purposes. • Rotates among health center abortion sites for purposes of staffing, evaluation and training. • Reviews and relevant EHR changes or product upgrades for abortion charting. Works with health center staff to inform and train as needed. • Develops and implements new nursing related initiatives in conjunction with the Medical Director. • Coordinate with CM and Medical Director for crash cart audits, follow up, and stocking. • Coordinate with Medical Director and CM for AB site medication ordering and stocking including narcotics. Supervisory: • No direct reports, Clinical support and indirect supervisory responsibilities. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Other Duties as Assigned.
