About The Position

The best automation engineers have the technical depth of a software engineer, the product instincts of someone who's lived in the codebase, and the empathy to always ask: what does this feel like for the person on the other end? That's what we're looking for. This is an engineering-forward role. You'll work across our Ruby backend, React frontend, and React Native mobile app, building and maturing automated test coverage, reducing friction in our CI/CD pipelines, and helping the team develop stronger quality instincts over time. We're in the middle of moving from a Capybara/Selenium foundation to a modern Playwright-based suite, and this person will help shape where that goes. We use AI tools as a genuine force multiplier, and we expect the same from you. At Healthie, we are increasingly AI-enabled and AI-accelerated in how we build. We are looking for team members who actively leverage AI-powered development tools, embrace automation, and help teams adopt modern, AI-assisted engineering practices to increase velocity and quality.

Requirements

8+ years of software or quality engineering experience with a strong engineering foundation
Demonstrated expertise with Playwright, preferably with Typescript
Solid API testing experience with Postman or equivalent
Proficiency in Ruby, or a genuine willingness to get there fast; familiarity with React and React Native
Deep understanding of the test pyramid and practical experience in placing automation at the right levels
CI/CD experience (CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or equivalent)
Proven strategies for identifying and reducing test flakiness
Experience in a regulated industry such as healthcare or fintech, or strong awareness of compliance and data sensitivity requirements
Strong communication and mentorship skills

Nice To Haves

Exposure to HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar compliance frameworks
Prior experience migrating legacy test suites (e.g., Capybara/Selenium to Playwright)
Familiarity with OpenTelemetry and connecting quality signals to observability pipelines
Experience with contract testing frameworks such as Pact
