About The Position

The Lead Pharmacist serves as a working pharmacist and operational team leader, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant preparation, distribution, and management of medications. This role provides daily oversight of pharmacy workflow, supports staff, and ensures adherence to regulatory and institutional standards. The Lead Pharmacist also delivers comprehensive pharmaceutical care, including drug therapy management, compounding, dispensing, and participation in patient and clinician education. As a Lead Pharmacist, You Will Be Responsible For:

Requirements

Higher Degree in B.S. Pharmacy (5‑year degree) or Pharm.D. (6‑year degree) — Required
RPH — Registered Pharmacist — Required
1 year Hospital Pharmacy — Preferred
Develops and shows competency in the following pharmacist functions (additional skills may be added as services expand): Order Processing & Profile Review (safety, efficacy, appropriateness, accuracy) Pharmacokinetics Anticoagulation Renal Dose Monitoring Nutrition Support Antibiotic Stewardship Formulary Management
Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for the role. Understands equipment operation and maintains equipment in working order. Troubleshoots equipment issues. Uses technology to increase productivity and adapts to new systems. Stays current on new technologies and regulatory updates affecting system use.
Ensures quality of services provided within specialty area. Maintains competency in all required clinical skills. Assists in clinical training of pharmacists, residents, students, and technical staff. Fulfills educational requirements and maintains current clinical knowledge.

Responsibilities

Overseeing day‑to‑day pharmacy operations and workflow coordination.
Ensuring compliant, safe, and efficient preparation, distribution, and management of medications.
Functioning as a working pharmacist while serving as an operational resource for pharmacy staff.
Maintaining adherence to regulatory and institutional standards.
Managing selected drug therapies, ensuring safe and appropriate medication use.
Overseeing compounding, dispensing, labeling, and proper pharmaceutical storage.
Participating in education of patients, nurses, and physicians.
Supporting quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts.
Coordinates workflow, staffing assignments, and task prioritization.
Serves as the on‑shift lead pharmacist to support seamless operations and communication.
Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
Participates in medication safety initiatives and continuous quality improvement (CQI) programs.
Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and core values.
Maintains current knowledge through required education and ongoing training.
Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in‑services and competencies on time.
Demonstrates competency in providing care for various patient populations based on age, weight, and needs.
Uses age‑specific customer service skills when applicable.
Wears protective clothing and equipment as required.
