About The Position

Responsible for handling radioactive materials and operating radionuclide measuring and imaging devices for the purpose of obtaining quality diagnostic information concerning various bodily functions and structures. Work is conducted under strict safety standards and in accordance with department protocols and regulatory/license requirements. Oversees and leads the Nuclear Medicine Technologists daily activities, supports and develops policies and standards. A lead primarily performs the same work as others in the classification; in addition is directly accountable for monitoring and reviewing work assignments of other employees, checking work for accuracy, makes daily work assignments, develops work schedules, or giving advice and work instructions to other employees. Fulfills all of the job functions and responsibilities of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Requirements

  • ARRT (NM) or NMTCB and the State of Washington Certification Registration
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification by date of hire
  • Training specific to the operation and performance of NM cameras.
  • Current WA State Radiologic Technologist licensure

Responsibilities

  • Consistently perform complex examinations and procedures, including injecting radiopharmaceuticals under the direct supervision of a Radiologist.
  • Responsible for, familiar with, and abides by the radioactive materials license WN-MO1161-1
  • Orders radiopharmaceuticals in a timely manner.
  • Injects radionuclides in a safe and efficient manner
  • Adjusts exposure time factors for optimal imaging.
  • Records radionuclide doses administered.
  • Discards radionuclides and object materials in a manner prescribed by federal and state laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinates and expedites the work of the team and instructs or guides employees on work processes.
  • Orients and trains new employees through demonstration of equipment and work methods.
  • Inspects work for completion and accuracy and reports the results and variances from performance/ behavioral standards to the manager.
  • Oversees daily clinical activities and the coordination of patient/employee ratios.
  • Monitors staffing grid to institute low census policies when possible.
  • Insures thoroughness and safety of examinations while setting the priority of clinical needs. Maintains examination schedules in the most productive manner with a balance of clinical responsibility shared between staff.
  • Delegates special work assignments when volumes allow.
  • Completes staff time cards for area and submits to Manager for signature and final review.
  • Maintains sections of policies/procedures manuals as well as exam protocol manuals.
  • Supports, develops and participates in quality control and quality assurance standards and programs.
  • Knowledge of and actively participates in review of JC requirements.
  • Provides in-service and orientation to new employees in the section and ancillary personnel as required.
  • Ensures and records completeness of required documents of licensure, certification and registration as related to section.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance of equipment through the Manager in a manner not to insult patient care, productivity or after-hours work if possible.
  • Maintains inventory levels in the section sufficient for examination requirements while complying with budget guidelines as outlined by DI Manager.
  • Confers with Manager on a regular basis for discussion of productivity, budget status and overall direction of responsibility.
  • Immediately communicates all exceptions to department and hospital policies.
  • Develops call, standby and vacation/attendance schedule for approval by Manager no less than one month prior to distribution.
  • Attends and actively participates in lead technologist meetings.
  • Communicates on regular basis with radiologists on the best approach to tailor examinations to clinical needs.
  • Aids in the development of new procedures and policies.
  • Assists with TQA (technical quality assurance) programs; promotes technologist participation.
  • Reviews images for technical quality and guidance for technologists.
