About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: Using a team-based approach to care, the Medical Assistant Lead works with team members to provide high quality, safe, evidence-based care to pediatric patients. The MA Lead serves as a leader and resource on the team. Responsible for ensuring smooth daily operations of the clinic. Provides guidance to the other medical assistance, ensuring smooth patient flow and proper patient care. Provides clerical and clinical assistance as required. Prepares patient from triaging through vital signs/medical history. Assists provider and completes procedures as directed. Acts in a supervisory capacity to other medical assistance and completes routine paperwork as required. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Perform Office Visit Planning/reviews EHR prior to the start of the session and is part of a pre-visit huddle with team members Maintain a clean, orderly and safe environment for patients and visitors. Ensures exam rooms are kept clean, organized, and fully stocked Perform point-of-care testing and training of other staff members, clinical procedures, and assessments according to clinical standards and Health Center policies and procedures Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments Assist providers and nurses in the collection, processing, and tracking of forms In collaboration with providers and the nurse manager, work with patient data to follow-up and track patient results Meet compliance and regulatory standards Participate in practice- and organization-wide training and quality improvement initiatives Provide instruction, guidance, role modeling, and mentoring to Medical Assistants Identify areas for improvement in workflows, systems, coverage, and continuity of care issues. Effectively and appropriately communicates recommendations and suggestions to management Assist nurse manager with staff scheduling, room assignments, and coverage. Working under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, serves in a supervisory role of daily operations in clinic and resource to other staff, completing required paperwork, and training staff and students if needed. Provide patient care (obtaining vital signs, ascertaining primary problem, preparing patient for provider visit.) Assists with minor surgical procedures. Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control. Communicates effectively with other staff members and displays appropriate use of medical terminology. In accordance with universal precautions, equip examination rooms, clean rooms, instruments and sterilize same, according to proper procedures. Obtains information from hospital or lab as ordered by physician. Sets up exam rooms for following day's operation, taking inventory and restocking supplies as needed. Utilizes electronic health record system to enter, retrieve and document patient information, clinical tasks, communications, and physician orders accurately and efficiently. Acts as a mentor and trainer to new employees. Reports incidents, conflicts, environmental, building, and equipment deficiencies or abnormalities to Nurse Manager or other parties as required. Monitors stock levels and supplies. Orders items required for office operations. Performs other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent training and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Certification of a Medical Assistant program required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, interpreting physician orders, and direct medical assisting.
  • Previous experience with hospital and medical practice/scheduling/information systems
  • Pleasant phone manners and professional appearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Documentation of completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant in ambulatory care preferred.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Bilingual skills English/Spanish preferred.
  • Prior computer operation experience, Ochin / Epic preferred.
