About The Position

Job Summary: The Lead Material Handler/Shipper coordinates the material handling and shipping operations within the warehouse or distribution center. This role involves coordinating the distribution of materials and directing a team of material handlers and shippers. The Lead Material Handler/Shipper will work closely with various departments to ensure efficient and effective material flow, support production schedules, and meet customer requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in material handling, shipping, or warehousing, preferred 1-2 years in a lead role.
  • Proficiency in operating material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Strong understanding of shipping principles and practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using shipping software, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) as needed.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving materials.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., hot, cold, noisy).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure materials are handled safely and stored properly to prevent damage or loss.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment as needed.
  • Prepare, package, and ship orders to customers, ensuring all shipments are processed accurately and on time.
  • Coordinate with carriers and logistics providers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
  • Verify shipping documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Lead a team of material handlers and shippers, providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Assign tasks and monitor the performance of the team to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Champion a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate goals, updates, and address any issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of material movements, inventory levels, and shipments.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on material handling and shipping activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports for management review.
