The Operations & Facilities Management Department (OFMD) at WashU Medicine provides essential services that sustain the medical campus’ mission of excellence in patient care, research, and education. Serves as the senior working operational lead of the Investigations Unit in Protective Services. Provides daily workflow leadership, investigative quality control, training and mentoring of investigators, administrative reporting and metrics development, and assists the Assistant Director of Investigations with unit oversight, compliance, and strategic development. Maintains an active investigative caseload and provides on-call operational leadership in support of campus safety, regulatory compliance, and organizational integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Concealed Carry Certification - State of Missouri
  • Concealed Carry License (CCL) - Illinois State Police (ISP)
  • Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card - Illinois State Police (ISP)
  • St. Louis Metropolitan Security License - St. Louis City/St. Louis County
  • St. Louis Metropolitan Security License - within 30 days of hire - St. Louis City/St. Louis County
  • Professional Law Enforcement Investigations Or Management (7 Years)
  • A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position.
  • If no previous departmental psychological assessment has been completed by the individual, a psychological assessment will be necessary for this position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a St. Louis Metropolitan Security License within 30 days of hire. In order to obtain this St. Louis Metropolitan Security License, one must meet the basic licensing requirements for the Security Officer licensing category which specifies that individuals must be at least 21 years of age (https://slmpd.org/privatesecurity/).
  • If an Illinois resident, must have a valid FOID card and Concealed Carry License (CCL).
  • Must obtain and maintain a Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D Driver’s license within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in criminal justice, a related social services field, or other applicable course of study; graduation from an accredited law enforcement academy.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews investigative reports, case files, and documentation to ensure accuracy, manages regulatory compliance (including Clery and HIPAA considerations) completeness and professional standards prior to submission or dissemination.
  • Assists daily operational leadership of the Investigations Unit, including assignment and prioritization of investigative cases, monitoring case progress, ensuring timely completion, and maintaining consistent investigative standards and protocols.
  • Conducts sensitive and complex investigations involving employee misconduct, threats to campus safety, criminal activity, and institutional risk; maintains an active investigative caseload.
  • Creates and oversees the issuance of BOLOs, crime alerts and other campus-wide communications related to safety, security and education.
  • Assists with mentoring and training investigators, including onboarding new staff, conducting in-service training, providing coaching, and supporting professional development and performance improvement.
  • Serves as the primary administrator for the department's record management system (ARMS), supports investigative unit oversight and assists with trend analysis and continuous process improvement.
  • Supports the Assistant Director of Investigations with administrative oversight, compliance preparation, audits (processes and physical security), policy adherence, case coordination, and operational planning.
  • Supports the Assistant Director with any investigation and operational need on a day-to-day basis.
  • Represents Assistant Director in meetings and any communication with the WashU Medicine communities (CWE-NSI, Cortex, BJ).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
