About The Position

The Lead Human Resources Consultant is responsible for providing leadership and managing the day-to-day work of the Employee Relations team. Additionally, they will be the primary contact for designated departments and will provide employee relations support for those teams. This is a hybrid position that typically works onsite three days per week. The ideal candidate is experienced in employee relations and knowledgeable of employment law. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in human resources, business or related field is required and at least four years of employee relations experience required.
  • OR High School Diploma/GED and six years of employee relations experience required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local legislation as it applies to human resources and the employment process is required.
  • PHR, SPHR certification, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certification or UPMC HCI Strategic HR Business Partner Certification required within the first 12 months of hire for external candidates. Internal applicants within UPMC HR are required to have the certification requirements in place to be considered for promotional opportunities

Responsibilities

  • Participate on local and/or organization wide committees that focus on projects that move the organization towards meeting its strategic goals.
  • Independently able to advise all customers on employee relations matters such as reduction in force, disciplinary investigations, grievances, performance improvement plans
  • Collaborate with HR team to design and plan interventions that that facilitate organizational changes.
  • Lead business unit and system-wide projects and initiatives, lead committees
  • Lead and manage the daily work flow and activities for a team of employee relations professionals. Develop and mentor the employee relations staff.
  • Collaborate with HR business and operational leaders to identify education gaps and development opportunities for management and employees. Partners with management to provide consultation on coaching and mentorship for staff.
  • Partner with leaders to provide and implement HR initiatives that support management and employees across the organization.
  • Effectively communicate expectations with the business, operational, and HR partners while promoting a One Team collaborative atmosphere in which all functions of HR work together as one team.
