The Lead Specialist plays a critical role in building a strong sales pipeline by identifying, nurturing, and qualifying prospective accounts into sales-ready opportunities. Using internal databases and analytical tools, this individual will prioritize outreach, engage leads through multiple channels, and collaborate with Sales to convert prospects into new signings of industrial gases and equipment. The ideal candidate is curious, resilient, and eager to learn about Air Products’ offerings—including supply modes, applications, technology, and contracts. They are a problem-solver who utilizes tools and innovation to drive results. This role offers cross-functional exposure to Marketing, Commercial Technology, and Business Development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing, or related field
  • 2–3 years of experience in sales, marketing, or customer-facing roles preferred
  • Effective communication and influencing skills; excellent phone etiquette.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and demonstrated adoption of new capabilities to improve/enhance work processes.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and trends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g. CRM SAP, Salesforce), SAP Qlik, or HubSpot and familiarity with industrial or technical products, also a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prospecting & Research Identify and prioritize prospective accounts using internal databases, market intelligence tools, and industry publications.
  • Partner with Sales through regular territory planning to align on priorities, target accounts and engagement strategies.
  • Proactively identify and develop growth opportunities within assigned territories in support of product line objectives (e.g. growth segments, new-to-market investments), focusing Sales effort on the highest-potential opportunities.
  • Monitor market and industry signals (e.g. expansions, capital projects, regulatory or operational events) to surface time-sensitive opportunities, and collaborate with Sales to identify key contacts, access points, and early-engagement strategies that establish supplier advantage.
  • Outbound & Inbound Engagement Initiate contact via phone, email, and digital channels to uncover customer needs, identify decision-makers, and qualify opportunities.
  • Respond to inbound inquiries and follow up on leads generated from marketing campaigns, trade shows, and digital channels.
  • Lead Qualification & Conversion Qualify leads based on defined criteria (e.g., scope, budget, timing) and transition them to Sales for further development.
  • Maintain accurate records of all interactions and follow-up actions in CRM system (SAP CRM, Salesforce).
  • Collaboration & Campaign Support Work closely with Sales, Marketing, and Commercial Technology to develop and execute targeted campaigns.
  • Provide feedback on lead quality and campaign effectiveness to improve future outreach.
  • Share customer insights, objections, and emerging needs with Marketing and Segment teams to help refine value propositions and targeting.
  • Continuous Learning & Innovation Stay current on Air Products’ offerings, applications, and technologies.
  • Pilot and adopt new tools and reporting technologies to improve workflow and effectiveness.
