About The Position

The Plant Layout and Program Integration team is a cross-functional engineering discipline responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight of a technical team of engineers and designers responsible for the systems, structures & components design layout of the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Nuclear Island, Turbine Island and Balance of Plant into the 3D BIM Model. The Lead Engineer – Plant Layout and Program Integration performs a key role within GE Hitachi’s Plant Systems Integration teams which focus on development of new advanced nuclear reactor projects. You will be responsible for engineering design support within a team environment, working with other disciplines, project/product stakeholders, partner organizations and suppliers to advance plant conceptual and detailed design and successfully deliver a new plants project. You will be part of a large team working on integrating and coordinating multi-discipline activities to support the design of safe and economically superior reactor designs by employing a balance of cutting edge and proven technologies and will be responsible for development and implementation of licensing and technical requirements along with the associated work processes for advanced work in new nuclear plants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in nuclear commercial power.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% (U.S. and internationally, as required)
  • For US the preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • For US this role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • For Canada GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in Canada for this opening.
  • For Canada this position will report onsite to the Markham office 2 days a week (Tuesday's and Thursday's).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil).
  • Experience with Nuclear Island, Turbine Island and BOP plant systems and with the associated safety analyses design bases.
  • Experience working in a nuclear power plant is strongly desired.
  • Plant experience in multiple capacities including on-shift, outage prep, work control, and/or training.
  • Commercial nuclear engineering experience in multiple capacities including Design, Licensing, PRA, and/or Systems -OR- shipyard nuclear systems engineering experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of plant operations, licensing and design bases, transient and accident analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong customer interaction skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts component and system integration with overall new nuclear plant design. All activities that span multiple components and systems that are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance, operability, and design to cost.
  • Perform identification of verification and validation (V&V) requirements at the plant, system, and component level.
  • Manages interface between systems, components, and project/product management organizations.
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline.
  • Serves as best practice/quality resource.
  • Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area.
  • Contributes strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how your area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
  • Takes new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Use technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
