About The Position

The Lead Engineer - Reactor System Modeling works within the Simulation Assisted Engineering (SAE) team by enabling LEAN integrated plant design (IPD) using modern digital engineering tools and techniques. The main responsibility of this position is the ownership of reactor thermal-hydraulic and neutronics models which are connected to complete balance of plant models. The main tool used for this work is the TRACG system code.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Software, Computer Science or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or equivalent 4-year technical degree.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with thermal-hydraulic system codes (preferably TRACG).
  • Eligibility Requirements: The preferred work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology.
  • GVH will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Software, Computer Science or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
  • Experience creating and modifying input models (“basedecks”) in thermal-hydraulic system codes (e.g., nuclear power plant models, test facility models, etc.)
  • Knowledge of common computer languages (C#, C++, etc.) and software development tools (Version control, IDE’s, Debuggers, etc.).
  • Experience in software development.
  • Design and analysis simulation [e.g.; 3KeyMaster/WSC], Experience developing high fidelity engineering simulator or FSS integrated with a DCS platform either via virtual controller or emulation
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain simulator models, which includes: Modifying the Safety Analysis TRACG basedeck (and related files) to connect with the SAE Integrated Plant Design Environment (IPDE)
  • Performing standalone TRACG analysis and custom methods testing for lean design work.
  • Performing sensitivity studies with TRACG in the SAE Integrated Plant Design Environment.
  • Simplifying and optimizing models for use in Full Scope Simulator training, which requires a focus on real-time execution, repeatability, and accuracy.
  • Ownership, development, configuration, testing, and maintenance of basedeck and Graphical Engineering Station (GES) model interfaces (including models and methods code base) between TRACG and all other executable code under the main IPDE executive
  • Assist in maintaining a singular master plant simulation model in SAE environment while ensuring requirements and configuration management are updated and baselined as necessary.
  • Develop and edit system models in an integrated simulation environment.
  • Develop and run scenarios for single systems, collections of interrelated systems, or entire power plant for: startup, shutdown, and maneuvering throughout all modes of plant operations.
