About The Position

As a contributing member of the LOCA, Containment & Stability Analysis Team, you will perform thermal-hydraulic safety analysis for Containment Response, Hydraulic Loads assessments, and ECCS LOCA performance for Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants, including currently operating BWR plants as well as new plants (BWRX) operating or planned worldwide.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, or similar) from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in BWR Nuclear plant T-H Safety Analysis and Methods.
  • Eligibility Requirements The preferred work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with BWRs or PWRs; or comparable, portable industry experience in piping networks, fluid flow, pump design, pressure vessels, thermal-hydraulic design to support applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ph.D. and/or M.S. Degree in Nuclear Engineering with experience in T-H modeling as applied to nuclear reactor systems.
  • Knowledge of reactor licensing requirements.
  • Experience in ECCS / LOCA, Containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads or Reactor Internals Pressure Difference analyses.
  • Experience with T-H systems codes such as TRACG, TRACE, and RELAP.
  • Knowledge of nuclear reactor licensing requirements.
  • Knowledge of / experience with 10 CFR 50.46 regulations.
  • Experience with best estimate and CSAU applications.
  • Experience with programming (C#, FORTRAN, PYTHON).

Responsibilities

  • Perform plant thermal-hydraulic technical evaluations and analyses in the areas of Containment Response and Impact, Hydrodynamic and Pressurization Loads, and ECCS LOCA performance, with demonstrated expertise in two-phase flow and heat transfer analysis techniques.
  • Deliver fuel projects including reload analyses, ECCS LOCA and Containment methods implementation, power uprates, new fuel introduction, and safety analysis support for emergent issues.
  • Perform in cross-disciplinary settings, engaged with interfacing teams responsible for mechanical design, core design, licensing, systems design, or other affiliated organizations to find optimum customer solutions.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate activities with internal and external project managers, technical personnel, and customers on technical issues.
  • Prepare, document and present technical data to internal/external customers.
  • Provide technical mentoring to support ECCS LOCA and Containment team development and knowledge management, including procedure development and adherence.
  • Develop/deliver training course offerings in support of external commercial requests, as well as for internal audiences for knowledge capture and transfer.
  • Contribute to team process improvements to drive speed and simplification.
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with regulatory rules and regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.
