About The Position

Lead Engineer role in Plant Instrumentation & Control Systems Design team. Primary focus is boiling water reactor rod control system engineer responsible for; 1) Support of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in operating fleet, 2) Design of digital modernization for original systems, 3) Design of digital systems for new reactor types. Scope includes; 1) Requirements definition, 2) Design specifications, 3) Field deployment of system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Physical Sciences, Computer Science or Technology, Mathematics or equivalent 4 year technical degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with system and software design, application, requisition, simulation, or field engineering and configuration, analysis, and modeling related to: Distributed Control Systems (DCS) OR Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) OR Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)Minimum.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with modern digital control system implementations or modifications of involving; complex, real-time operating systems, intensive instrumentation, data acquisition, control, monitoring, PID loop tuning, etc.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with structured systems and software development lifecycle methodologies including creation, use and stewardship of company standards, design practices, and guides for object-oriented design architectures, application code libraries, etc.
  • Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
  • Ability and Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with power generation or industrial controls equipment preferably in in large, complex, diverse, industries; manufacturing high speed assembly automation or robotics, pulp & paper, power, process, marine, medical, pharmaceutical, military-aerospace, research and development, or technology demonstration process control, national or university laboratories, etc.
  • Experience with; instrument application and datasheets, hard and soft input/output (I/O) lists and databases including set point calculations and control algorithms, functional block, logic, and sequence diagrams, electrical one-line diagrams, and mechanical process piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Experience with requirements definition engineering and management including use of associated tools [e.g., DOORS].
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools [e.g., 3KeyMaster, EASY5, LabView, MathCad, Mathmatica, MatLab, MatrixX, SimSci-Esscor].
  • Experience with new product development projects.
  • Experience in nuclear analog and digital instrumentation, control (I&C), monitoring, and electrical plant, field, or start-up Engineering with detailed working knowledge in safety-related systems, hardware, software, theory of operation, instrument set point and calibration methodologies, equipment environmental and seismic testing and qualification (EQ) to diverse industry standards [e.g.; IEEE, IEC, ASME].
  • Self-starter with energy and positive “Can-Do” attitude with legacy of delivering on commitments and stretch goals.
  • Team player with cross- discipline and functional leadership knowledge, skills, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) rod control and information system (RC&IS) across the various types of operating boiling water reactors (BWRs) -3, -4, -5, and -6 types including key functions of the various subsystems.
  • Prepare system and sub-system level. Requirements specifications.
  • Functional performance and design specifications for both generic platform product as well as plant specific applications.
  • Design artifacts such as; functional block diagrams (FBD), Logic Diagrams (LDs), Input/Output (I/O) Lists, Functional Algorithms (FX), Setpoints (SP), Human Machine Interface (HMI) as well as basic chassis and cabinet layout diagrams or drawings, various plans and reports, etc.
  • Work within the context of a structured digital I&C and embedded systems and software development lifecycle (SDLC) process including its’ design reviews.
  • Provide technical oversight through input documentation, written guidance, and answering questions from the embedded systems hardware and software design teams as they interpret the requirements and develop their respective detailed implementation documentation.
  • Collaborate with the implementation team to develop, perform, and review unit, module, system, and integration test plans and results including; simulation, verification and validation (V&V), and factory acceptance test (FAT).
  • Participate in on-site walk-downs of existing equipment in support of defining customer specific application configurations and requirements.
