About The Position

This position is an embedded, on-site role supporting refinery PLC systems. The engineer will work directly with the client’s control systems team and is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving PLC-based control systems across the facility. The role requires strong technical capability, ownership of system reliability, and the ability to operate effectively with minimal direction in a live operating environment.

Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting skills in operating industrial environments
  • Able to work safely and effectively in a refinery setting
  • Self-directed and proactive; does not rely on constant task assignment
  • Comfortable working as part of a client-integrated team
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for system performance
  • Able to interpret and apply facility standards and system philosophies
  • PLC programming (Allen Bradley CLX, CompactLogix, SLC, and PLC5 are required)
  • HMI programming (PanelView is required)
  • Logic Solver programming (Triconex Platform preferred, plus others)
  • Familiarity with P&IDs, Logic Diagrams, Cause / Effect matrices, and Functional Narratives
  • Cutovers/loop checks
  • Startup assistance/troubleshooting

  • DCS Exposure (preferred)
  • Honeywell Experion
  • Safety Systems (is a plus):
  • Triconex, Safety Manager, or similar logic solvers

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support refinery PLC systems to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve field issues in real time
  • Modify and update PLC logic to support project and operational changes
  • Perform firmware upgrades and minor hardware upgrades for legacy systems
  • Support MOC processes and ensure compliance with site standards
  • Participate in system testing, loop checks, cutovers, and startup activities
  • Work closely with operations, maintenance, and client engineering teams
  • Identify gaps, inefficiencies, or risks and proactively address them
  • Effectively utilize time during low workload periods to improve systems, documentation, or standards.
  • Respond to callouts as needed and scheduled.
