About The Position

Under general supervision, the purpose of the job is to perform advanced skilled journey level work combining activities in various mechanical and building trade areas: installation, operation, maintenance, equipment and fixtures, service and repair of electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating ventilating, and plumbing systems. Employees in this classification apply considerable skills to perform trade tasks in a minimum of two (2) of the standard trade disciplines, e.g., HVAC, electrical, pump-mechanical, plumbing. Performs related work as directed. This position allows eligible veterans and their spouses to claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Minimum Experience/Training: Five years of experience in the Electrical Journeyman level. Minimum Certification/Licenses: Valid Florida Driver’s License required or, as a condition of continued employment, a Valid Florida Driver’s License within 30 days after beginning employment by the College. Desirable certifications/licenses include Electrical Journeyman License or Master Electrical License, Fork lift certification, Man lift certification, CDL Class D, certification from an accredited technical school. Essential Functions: Daily - 10%: Performs complex and specialized tasks in the construction, renovation, modification, installation and repair of buildings, equipment, apparatus and facilities. Daily - 10%: Applies considerable skill in a minimum of two (2) of the standard trade disciplines, e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, pump-mechanical. Daily - 10%: Performs complex plumbing work in repairing valves and fixtures; replaces old lines and broken fixtures. Daily - 30%: Performs electrical repairs to buildings, boxes and switches; replaces ballasts, wiring and fixtures. Weekly - 5%: Picks up and delivers materials to job sites; unloads delivery trucks; operates forklift, man lift, front in loader and other heavy machinery. Other - 5%: Performs the following: preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports and maintenance of records. Other - 5%: Provides assistance and technical guidance to other trades and facilities maintenance staff in proper procedures and practices according to the specific trade discipline applied to a project. Other - 5%: Functions in a lead worker capacity according to the particular project or as assigned by supervisor. Daily - 5%: Ensures adherence to established standards governing proper safety in the workplace and according to job site. Other - 5%: Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Other - 10%: Performs related duties as assigned. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
