About The Position

This position plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health’s mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities. Coordinates accomplishment of Electrical System preventive and corrective maintenance activities. Assists the Maintenance Supervisor and Facilities Director in scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance tasks. Provides leadership and supervision of the Electrician Team. Responsible for maintaining HVAC Systems at the Main Hospital and Satellite Buildings in optimal condition.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Licensure/Certification: Must hold a current Electrician License as issued by the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) at the Master level. Underground Storage Tank Operator Training Class A Operator designation recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia within 60 days of hire.
  • Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years Hospital campus or Industrial / Commercial electrical facility work experience. Minimum of five (5) years Healthcare experience with demonstrated advanced electrical troubleshooting and repair experiences. Demonstrated troubleshooting and repair experiences with Diesel Generators, Automatic Transfer switches, fire alarm systems, HVAC system motors and building HVAC system controls and electrical switchgear. Demonstrated Electrical component expertise. Expertise with diagnostics and repair of Electrical Distribution system components including but not limited to: circuit breakers, transformers, variable frequency drives, cabling and security alarm systems.
  • Driver's License: Yes To drive an Augusta Health Vehicle, must also be 21 years old and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must be approved by Risk Management.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and meet Virginia state employment requirements
  • Must be able to read blueprints and other technical documentation.
  • Must demonstrate good troubleshooting skills on a wide variety of facility electrical and electronic systems including: diesel generators, automatic transfer switches, circuit breakers, lighting controls, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment and batteries.
  • Must possess the skills to effectively lead a team of tradesman.
  • Must be able to prioritize daily work assignment for trades team
  • Basic computer keyboard skills necessary for sending and receiving e-mails and entering work status updates for assigned work orders.
  • Must be proficient with the use of electrical test equipment including multi-meters and megohmeters.
  • Must be able to bend Electric Metal Tubing (EMT) and thread rigid conduit.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Virginia building code requirements as they pertain to electrical systems and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Must be knowledgeable of electrical safety rules and practices.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting & repairs on a wide variety of Facility Infrastructure Systems.
  • Must have a working knowledge of computerized building automation systems (Siemens or equal) and be able to recognize HVAC System abnormalities due to mechanical or electrical malfunctions.

  • Must be able to perform considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching and climb ladders.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all functions and work that would normally be assigned to Electricians.
  • Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs a wide variety of electrical systems and fixtures rated at up to 480 volts.
  • Orders repair parts and supplies and maintains an inventory of on-hand spare parts for critical electrical systems.
  • Utilizes test equipment and meters, such as amp meters, voltmeters and megohmmeters for localizing electrical equipment malfunctions and faults.
  • Updates the status of assigned work orders on the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and maintains pertinent records to document work completed.
  • Assists other maintenance trades with troubleshooting and repairing various mechanical and electrical systems.
  • As a member of the Hospital maintenance team, performs a wide variety of routine building maintenance tasks including but not limited to: door hardware repairs, clearing clogged sinks and toilets, laundry department equipment repairs, thermostat repairs, unit heater and fan coil unit repairs, pneumatic tube system repairs, furniture repairs and moving furniture.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repairs of electrical control circuits associated with emergency power and HVAC Systems.
  • Coordinates the documentation of changes made by in-house electricians and contractors to the electrical distribution system on hospital drawings.
  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in Planning Electrical System outage work to perform system repairs.
  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in coordinating the work efforts of various contractors including but not limited to: the diesel generator maintenance contractors, the fire alarm system testing contractor, the fire sprinkler system contractor, the security camera contractor, the DSX contractor and the parking lot lighting contractor.
  • Trains new personnel assigned to the electrical group.
  • Provides in-the-field quality assurance checks of contractor electrical repairs, building modifications and new construction.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repairs to life safety generators and automatic transfer switches.
  • Orders and lay out materials for small project building modification tasks being performed by the electrician team.
  • Programs and repairs electric controls, motor control centers, and programmable logic controls and Variable Frequency motor drive controls.
  • Supervises electrical work being performed by the Utility Company on pole mounted and underground transmission lines and associated transformers.
  • Trains new Electricians assigned to the maintenance team.
  • Coordinates preventive and corrective maintenance work performed by Electrical contractors.
  • Performs seasonal inspections of equipment in preparation for the winter heating season.
  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in planning Electrical System outage work to perform system repairs.
  • During the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Lead Electrician assists the Director of Facilities Operations and Maintenance in assignment of duties to accommodate department workflow and work priorities.
  • Promotes continual improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • As part of the maintenance team, provides after hours call-in support on a rotating schedule basis and comes to work after hours to perform break-down repairs when needed to perform emergency equipment repairs.
  • May be required to use hospital vehicles for various reasons (going to supply houses, travel between buildings on the Augusta Health Campus and throughout the county etc.).
  • During the winter months, assists with shoveling snow on sidewalks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
