About The Position

We are seeking a motivated candidate to lead packaging of electrical components in early development of vehicle programs. The selected candidate will be responsible for one or multiple functional areas (eg. switches, displays, control modules, audio, etc). They will act as the chief spokesperson driving packaging execution of their components in new programs being developed by GM. The position involves significant collaboration with the electrical commodity, vehicle compartment integration, and electrical design teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry with electrical system focus; 2 years with product design/release and/or component packaging experience
  • Self-motivated to work independently and effectively with others with minimal guidance
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects. Demonstrated conflict resolution skills. High level of interpersonal skills. Can deal with ambiguity and change in a positive way
  • Ability to motivate and influence others

Nice To Haves

  • Masters of Science in Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in the automotive industry with electrical system focus; 5 years with product design/release and/or component packaging experience
  • Proficient with Unigraphics (viewing, creating sections, creating study files)

Responsibilities

  • Become an expert in component and subsystem strategy in your functional area(s)
  • Comprehend all technical requirements and criteria for your components (includes interface requirement, best practices, GMW3172 specification, DFMEA, benchmarking and lessons-learned)
  • Lead physical and functional integration of the engineering solution early in early stage of program development
  • Ensure design solutions meet all vehicle & component design criteria (including ICDm, environmental-EMC, thermal, stone, water intrusion, crashworthiness, manufacturing/ergo, serviceability, etc.)
  • Lead interface negotiations with counterpart component owners and design studio
  • Develops component mounting strategy to minimize fasteners / mass
  • Utilize techniques and tools to force data-driven decisions (pugh matrix, DFSS, benchmarking, etc.)
  • Provide technical direction to UG designers
  • Participate in vehicle development forums (AVD CITs / Workgroups, Electrical Design Reviews, Commodity Core PDTs, etc.)
  • Support CIT (Compartment Integration Team) meetings to integrate system and components to meet imperatives and vehicle requirements
  • Support Design Studio Health Check reviews as requires
