About The Position

The Lead Driver will assist the Transportation Manager with training, and coaching new Drivers, as well as existing Drivers who would benefit from one-on-one instruction. While not engaged in training, the Lead Driver will transport products in a safe manner and by following proper DOT regulations. Deliveries will be made to customers on time while providing excellent customer service as the face of the company.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must have a valid CDL Class A license with Doubles/Triples endorsements a plus
  • Minimum 3 years experience in commercial transportation or a graduate of an accredited truck driving school
  • Minimum of 1 year in the training field. Driver trainings preferred
  • Must have Hazmat endorsement or able to obtain within 60 days of employment
  • Ability to operate a tractor-trailer in a safe and efficient manner
  • Possess knowledge of all applicable State and Federal DOT regulations
  • Capacity to read and correctly interpret route manifests and invoices
  • Ability and willingness to work varying routes and required overtime as assigned by Supervisor
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects with or without reasonable accommodation (occasionally 60-75 lbs)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with an Automatic On-Board Recording Device (AOBRDs) such as OMNI Trax is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Train the new hires on delivery protocols, safety, compliance, and customer service.
  • Retrain the current drivers in the areas assigned by management.
  • Provides support to the leadership team with rolling new initiatives and promoting Bunzl’s values.
  • Operates tractor-trailer combination in a safe and professional manner at all times
  • Actively participates in and partially leads team meetings and events.
  • Assists in coordinating, planning, and implementing new training programs and initiatives.
  • Delivers products to customers on time, while providing complete customer service
  • Transfers materials and items from trailer to dock area or other designated area by hand, hand truck, manual pallet jack, or electric pallet jack
  • Assists with administrative tasks as needed
  • Provide route coverage in vacation or driver absence scenarios.
  • Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
