Come join us today! summary: Under the direction of the Medical Physicist and/or the Radiation Oncologist calculate computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients. Compute standard dose calculations and determine computerized generation of isodose curves for radiation treatment programs. Calculate treatment machine settings, document calculations, and record treatment data in therapy chart. In addition, under the direction of the Director of Medical Physics, lead in: Developing standard operating procedures to help maintain quality and patient safety throughout all clinics: Contouring templates Dose templates Proper dose tolerances being measured Plan templates Standard naming conventions Increase efficiency by determining the best clinical workflow with use of automation and templates. Help with scheduling staff/resources to specific projects. Ensure standard operating procedures are being followed throughout clinics. Lead the dosimetry team in generating complex treatment plans unique to every patient Development of new dosimetrist processes and procedures

Requirements

  • Associate degree is required (bachelor’s or master’s degree in medical dosimetry are preferred)
  • Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB)
  • At least ten years of full-time dosimetry experience.
  • Teaching experience of other dosimetrists including leading medical dosimetry program.
  • Experience with dosimetry project implementation.
  • Analysis & Critical Thinking
  • Strong interpersonal skills to include effective verbal and written communication
  • Solid time management with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to collaborate across various levels of management, departments, and teams
  • Comfortable negotiating problems and exploring solutions with physician population

Responsibilities

  • Provide input on performance of dosimetry staff in an ongoing and annual basis.
  • Assist in providing oversight of dosimetric operations to ensure smooth and efficient support of clinics.
  • Mentor dosimetry staff development as an experienced and knowledgeable resource.
  • Provide support and direction on complex treatment planning cases.
  • Provide treatment-planning instruction to staff, residents, and students as required.
  • Facilitate in-house education in the area of current treatment planning techniques and advances in medical dosimetry.
  • Help with staffing and training of new dosimetrist hires.
  • Contribute to positive outcomes of patient under treatment by promoting and maintaining quality dosimetry services in all clinics under the direction of the Medical Physics Director.
  • Monitor dosimetry operations for safety and accident prevention.
  • Keep records and prepare director’s report.
  • Provide assistance to director in maintaining quality assurance for all treatment planning systems.
  • Assist in localization procedures, using CT or conventional radiographic techniques.
  • Obtain patient contours and assist in outlining of anatomical structures and the target volume in three dimensions.
  • Register PET/CT or MRI images with our simulation CT’s to create extremely accurate, deformable fusion/registration.
  • Become and remain proficient in Intense Modulation Radiation Therapy (IMRT).
  • Discuss with the physician the aim of the treatment, including planned tumor dose and maximum acceptable doses to normal tissue.
  • Generate isodose distributions via computer and performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose.
  • Presents these to the physician and discusses alternatives.
  • Label plans with anatomical directions.
  • Calculate required treatment time or monitor setting for delivery of prescribed dose.
  • Prepare treatment aids and beam modifying devices, including head holders, molds, shields, cradles, compensators, and others as needed.
  • Assist in verification of treatment plans through treatment simulation using CT or conventional radiographic techniques.
  • Assist the therapist staff in the implementation of treatment plans.
  • Enter treatment parameters in record/verify system.
  • Assist in routine quality control program to include weekly chart checks, chart rounds, etc.
  • Ensuring standard operating procedures are being followed throughout clinics
  • Participate in clinical research for the development and implementation of new treatment techniques.
  • Assist in record keeping and documentation of treatment parameters for all patients undergoing radiation therapy.
  • Maintain inventory of radioactive substances.
  • Correctly load and unload radioactive substances into designated devices as prescribed by a physician.
  • Assist in localization procedures of intracavitary or interstitial sources or seeds.
  • Document and perform patient billing information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Incorporate compliance with department and state policies and procedures into patient care and treatment planning.
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information at all times.
  • Expected to work at any Company location to help meet Company business needs.
  • Expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
  • Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Keep work area and records in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Maintain all company equipment in a safe and working order.
