About The Position

This position exhibits experienced knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology in the management of cancer or other disease processes, with special expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning. Under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist and the Medical Physicist, accurately plans, represents, and calculates radiation dose distributions, and ensures proper implementation of the oncology patient’s treatment plan. Works on higher complexity and risk implementations such as SBRT, SRS, and HDR. Our Mission : Quality, compassionate care for all. Requirements

  • MDCB Certification in Medical Dosimetry required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in developing SBRT and SRS optimal treatment plans required.
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience with radiation safety principles, practices, and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other regulatory agencies required.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret criteria and develop treatment plans as defined by relevant treatment protocols required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information and communication systems required.
  • Algebra and trigonometry mathematical skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy preferred.
  • Introductory calculus preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in the technical aspects of radiation oncology, medical physics, and the ability to develop optimal treatment plans preferred.
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience in health care informatics to include the resources, devices and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently designs and creates: A treatment plan by means of computer and/or manual computation with optimal beam geometry to deliver a prescribed radiation dose and spare critical structures.
  • Plans for SBRT and SRS cases with high quality and efficiency while minimizing potential conflicts during treatment delivery.
  • Identifies and contours normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets.
  • Assumes proficiency in image registration with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET.
  • Creates and transfers reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery to include, DRRs, CBCTs and/or other IGRT methods, as specified.
  • Oversees, performs, and/or assists: In simulations and tumor localization using specified imaging devices including, but not limited to; CT, MRI, and PET.
  • In the planning and implementation of the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and/or other beam modifying devices.
  • In the planning and implementation of the production of all types of immobilization devices.
  • Stays educated on new technology, methods, and dose constraints for SBRT and SRS planning.
  • In collaboration with the radiation therapist(s), assumes an advisory role in the implementation of the treatment plan including, the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangement, and/or other treatment or imaging parameters.
  • Performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose.
  • Documents all pertinent information in the patient record and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations by an approved method.
  • Provides assistance and technical support to the Medical Physicist: In radiation safety and protection, qualitative machine calibrations, quality assurance of treatment plans and/or radiation oncology equipment.
  • With HDR planning as needed.
  • Oversees, performs, and/or assists as directed by the Medical Physicist: In the application of specific methods of patient and/or beam dosimetry.
  • Operates and performs quality assurance on treatment planning computer(s).
  • Collaborates with members of the Radiation Oncology department to ensure any new dosimetry procedures fit into the workflow of other specialties within the department.
  • Participates in the quality improvement process by evaluating processes and identifying any proposed changes.
  • Participates in: Safety program by maintaining standards and addressing any safety concerns.
  • Educates and assists new employees adapt to department procedures.
  • Updates dosimetry procedures to achieve and/or maintain accreditation.
  • Teaches applied aspects of medical dosimetry to radiation therapy, dosimetry, and radiologic technology students.
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.
