About The Position

The Martin Luther King Jr. Behavioral Health Center (MLK BHC) is a program of HealthRIGHT 360 and is contracted with the Department of Public Health's Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) program. MLK BHC offers residential Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) services for a maximum of 99 adult individuals, comprising 33 beds each for judicially involved men, men, and women. MLK BHC collaborates closely with other Behavioral Health Center programs to ensure a comprehensive range of services for low-income and Medi-Cal-eligible individuals. Situated on the Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital campus in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, the program serves residents of all Los Angeles County. The Lead Client Safety Navigator (CSN) ensures and maintains a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all clients, staff, and visitors. Lead CSN works with program leadership, Sherriff's or local law enforcement, and other teams to respond to emergency and crisis situations, including client drug use, overdose, programmatic interruptions, and other situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Higher education preferred.
  • Possess a valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Three years of job-related experience working or "lived experience" with the criminal justice population or with the community behavioral health system.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Pods to ensure safety is maintained and to provide support and feedback to all CSNs on shifts as needed.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe and orderly environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
  • Monitor security cameras and attend building security meetings.
  • Make regular rounds to monitor entrances, exits, offices, common areas, and building perimeters.
  • Clear areas of crowds, debris, and out-of-place items.
  • Direct and deflect traffic.
  • Work with local law enforcement as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and adhere to the organization's code of conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other funding requirements.
  • File incident reports as needed.
  • Welcome and assist clients when returning from appointments.
  • Ensure clients sign in and check belongings for contraband.
  • Welcome visitors, check credentials, ensure signing in, and escort them to the supervisor on duty.
  • Maintain client and visitor logs.
  • Carry Narcan, recognize signs of overdose, and administer Narcan as necessary to reverse drug overdose.
  • De-escalate emotionally charged situations and maintain non-confrontational behavior during observation and intervention.
  • Maintain positive, respectful, non-confrontational behavior.
  • Attend and participate in meetings.
  • Participate in and complete all assigned training.
  • Assist with onboarding of new CSN and training or mentoring new and existing CSNs.
  • Documentation must be maintained in compliance with agency standards, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other funding requirements to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements.
