The Role As the Lead Associate, Communications, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will support the numerous functions of the Communications team at Save the Children, including Media Relations, Internal Communications, and Web Development. You will support efforts to monitor and track the agency’s news coverage and place news in key outlets. The Lead Associate, Communications will provide timely, data-driven insights and media-savvy support around breaking news and proactive, long-term media engagement efforts. Additionally, you will collaborate with the internal communications and web teams on content and coordination of channel- and audience-specific content. Location Hybrid – Washington DC, Fairfield, CT or Lexington, KY office locations

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and use monitoring tools to track Save the Children power of voice and share of voice in news media – as well as news-aided visits to Save the Children’s website and social amplification of Save the Children news coverage.
  • Create insightful news coverage reports for key internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain accessible messaging archives.
  • Identify Save the Children-focused news media pitches around breaking news, calendar and campaign moments.
  • Generate earned media through pitching targeted local, state and national journalists.
  • Proactively build and strengthen relationships with journalists from target media outlets.
  • Build media lists for key media moments and rapid onset emergencies.
  • Research the news industry, media outlets and journalists to help identify media trends and inform media strategy, proactive media outreach, and thought leadership opportunities.
  • Coordinate and schedule media interviews and help prepare Save the Children spokespeople for interviews.
  • Respond to press inquiries as needed.
  • Serve as weekend media on call for breaking news and urgent media inquiries approximately once a month.
  • Create, manage, edit and publish content using our CMS and an HTML editor.
  • Work with stakeholders to scope and gather requirements for production and development requests.
  • Track projects and tasks in our project management tool, as well as Excel status sheets.
  • Work with web leads to create and maintain a web editorial calendar.
  • Supports internal communications by collaborating with communications teams, People & Culture teams, and others to create and disseminate content.
  • Assists with drafts and dissemination of agency email announcements and invitations in collaboration with initiative lead; engage and support on enterprise social platform (Facebook Workplace)
  • Collaborates with Senior Advisor on maintaining an internal communications calendar for internal communications to drive proactive and reactive campaigns.
