The Communications Lead will lead both internal and outward-facing storytelling that brings Easterseals NJ’s mission and people to life. This role owns the voice and narrative of the organization across internal communications, staff engagement campaigns, and selected external platforms including social media, earned media, newsletters, and event support. It supports employee engagement messaging in partnership with HR, contributes to PR storytelling, and drives messaging strategy across platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3–5 years of experience in storytelling, editorial production, internal and external communications, or nonprofit media.
  • Familiarity in nonprofit campaigns, public events, and communications supporting organizational change.
  • Experience with intranet, email tools, content creation (ex: Canva & Google Suite), marketing CRM tools (ex: HubSpot) and social media tools (ex: Sprout Social).
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines, content types, and stakeholder voices, along with exceptional writing, editing, and organizational storytelling skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead storytelling strategy across internal communications and selected external platforms (e.g., social media, media submissions, executive messaging).
  • Manage and execute internal communication systems, including intranet, staff newsletter, alerts, and internal content calendars.
  • Draft and distribute the weekly employee newsletter, ensuring relevant and engaging updates across departments.
  • Collaborate with HR to communicate employee engagement initiatives and internal milestones.
  • Serve as the primary lead for writing executive talking points, event remarks, and town hall messaging.
  • Support the creation of messaging and promotional content for advocacy and fundraising campaigns.
  • Coordinate all media story development, writing, and placement in partnership with the Marketing Manager.
  • Serve as primary liaison with the National Easterseals marketing team to stay aligned on messaging and contribute stories for national platforms.
  • Partner on media relations narrative framing; serve as first backup for CAO in crisis messaging coordination and public statements.
  • Assists in project management and follow-up of marketing, communications, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Contributes actively to advocacy and marketing campaign strategies and implementation.
  • Assists in the review and planning of effective corporate communications and senior leadership messages as needed.
  • Track, analyze, and report on content engagement KPIs across internal and shared platforms.
  • Maintain storytelling resources including finalized content, internal messaging guides, visual stories, approved language, and organized digital archives
  • Support earned media by drafting narratives, coordinating with press, and preparing interview briefs.
  • Maintain internal press trackers, legislative and membership lists, and other campaign-linked assets.
  • Where intern or assistant support is unavailable, this role is accountable for administrative communication functions such as mailings, scheduling, or file upkeep.
  • Handle expense reports, printing bids, and supply coordination tied to communications priorities.
  • Monitor communications budget and align narrative projects with broader Advancement strategies.
