POSITION SUMMARY This position is expected to coordinate and perform financial accounting and reporting functions for the Galveston Bay Refinery (“GBR”). In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position will be expected to assist accountants and business partners in resolving day to day issues. This position interacts with refinery personnel, including refinery management as well as other refineries, Findlay Refining and Findlay/SAT accounting. This individual will also “lead” other members of the GBR Refinery Accounting Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
  • 5+ years of Accounting/Finance experience required.

  • Accounting degree preferred.
  • Previous MPC Refinery Accounting experience desired

Responsibilities

  • Participate in monthly financial closeout activities.
  • Prepare/coordinate monthly financial entries to properly account for refinery expenses and other financial activity.
  • Prepare/coordinate monthly account reconciliations
  • Coordinate and participate in the development of refinery’s annual expense budget and monthly updates, and the analysis of actual versus budgeted expenditures.
  • Assist in completion of the biennial Solomon Study and prepare analysis of the results.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned and provide back-up for other accounting functions as required.
  • Strong communication skills are required to effectively receive and distribute information to other accounting department personnel, operational department personnel, various levels of management, governmental agencies, and other MPC locations.
  • Participates in creating, and implementing new policies, methods, procedures and spreadsheets designed to improve accounting controls and efficiency.
  • May provide accounting advice to leadership to assist them in managing their responsibilities.
  • May assist management with team oversight and review the work of others.
  • Trains, mentors, and assists in providing direction to other Accountants.
  • Displays advanced ability to utilize systems/tools, which may include, but not limited to Excel and SAP
