This role involves performing the duties of a Line Specialist, maintaining safe and adequate services for customers. Under direct supervision and on a training basis, the specialist will assist higher-classified employees with basic operations such as installing, removing, and maintaining transmission and distribution poles, towers, conductors, transformers, pole top switches, cable, and other line equipment. Responsibilities also include assisting with street lighting installations, certain metering installations, patrolling lines, and operating various equipment like line trucks, digging equipment, small equipment, and power tools. The position requires climbing poles and steel structures at heights of fifty feet or greater for maintenance, removal, and installation tasks. Specialists are expected to maintain a neat appearance, interact courteously and efficiently with internal and external customers, and demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices, teamwork, and good communication skills. This posting is recruiting for both Apprentice Line Specialist and Journeyman Line Specialist positions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent knowledge of English, Math and Grammar
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Ability to use tools and equipment
  • Possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or demonstrate a willingness to secure one within the nine-month probationary period
  • Live within 30 miles of their reporting headquarters
  • Be available to work overtime
  • Wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, fall-arresting harness, and hearing protection

Responsibilities

  • Perform work of a Line Specialist in maintaining safe and adequate services to customers
  • Assist employees of higher line classifications in installing, removing and maintaining transmission and distribution poles, towers, conductors, transformers, pole top switches, cable and other line equipment, devices and appurtenances, and services
  • Assist with installation of street lighting equipment and certain phases of work on metering installations
  • Assist in the patrolling of lines and perform other related work
  • Operate line truck, digging equipment, small equipment and power tools
  • Climb poles and steel structures at heights of fifty feet (50) or greater to perform maintenance, removal and instillation of poles, transformers, line conductors, etc.
  • Complete dispatched orders via Mobile Data and Radio
