About The Position

At Spectrum Control, most departments operate on a 4-day, 10-hour work schedule, allowing for a 3-day weekend. The company offers competitive wages and Paid Time Off (PTO), with benefits commencing on the first day of employment. Spectrum Control is actively seeking a skilled Laser Weld Technician. The ideal candidate should possess experience in operating and programming high-precision laser systems to create airtight, leak-proof seals on various metal components, while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Key responsibilities for this role include setting up weld parameters (such as power and speed), performing welding operations, inspecting welds using a microscope, conducting post-weld leak tests, and carrying out routine maintenance on the laser equipment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with hermetic laser welding, preferably with fiber or Nd:YAG lasers.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • High school diploma.
  • Proficiency with machine control software, HMIs, and MS Office.
  • Ability to proficiently communicate and collaborate with team members optimizing workflow and meeting production schedules.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of basic safety regulations and practices regarding welding operations.
  • Ability to adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Ability to use a microscope for extended periods.
  • Good hand-eye coordination for handling small, delicate components.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with a Unitek Precision Systems or an Amada Miyach ax5000 series.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom environments and stringent quality standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Technical certificate or degree in welding/manufacturing.
  • Ability and desire for continuous education of new hermetic laser seal technologies and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate automated or manual laser welding systems to create hermetic seals.
  • Perform visual inspection using microscopes and utilize non-destructive testing, such as perfluorinated fluid (gross leak) and Helium Leak Detection (fine leak), to ensure seal integrity.
  • Work with materials such as aluminum, Cupronickel, and stainless steel, ensuring clean, contaminant-free surfaces.
  • Adjust laser parameters (focus, pulse, speed) to troubleshoot defects and improve yield.
  • Maintain detailed production logs, weld parameters, and quality inspection records in compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO, AS9100).
  • Perform routine maintenance on laser machinery and calibration of fixtures.
