About The Position

Spend your summer in Maryland, playing a vital role at Naval Air Station Patuxent River as a Large Mammal Survey Intern. You would perform crucial tasks in support of our mission.

Requirements

  • Valid driver license
  • Personal vehicle recommended Schedule: A Monday-Friday, 40 hour/week schedule is expected.
  • Deer Surveys will need to be done at night twice per week.
  • This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority.
  • All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger.
  • Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideal candidate can work with minimal supervision in areas with poisonous plants and animals, allergens, temperature extremes, and inclement weather
  • Minimum of 2 years of college in a related to wildlife management/biology, natural resources or other biological sciences; experience in habitat survey.
  • Local candidates are preferred due to lack of housing; however, non-local candidates will be considered if they can find their own housing.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evening surveys for deer and other mammals, 40%
  • Conduct surveys for state and federal listed butterfly species, 25%
  • Conduct acoustic bat surveys 15%
  • Conduct habitat management for state and federal listed species, 10%
  • Conduct submerged aquatic vegetation surveys, 5%
  • Assist with environmental education outreach, 5%
