About The Position

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is the leading Federal provider of outdoor recreation and attracts over 335 million visitors annually at 403 water resources development projects operated in 43 states. Interns will assist Libby Dam park rangers and maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of visitor and recreation areas and facilities. To include, minor maintenance, cleaning, sign installation, patrolling of park grounds and facilities, and providing visitor assistance in the visitor center and on scheduled tours of the dam.

Requirements

  • Must wear required attire by SCA or Corps Volunteer attire while on duty.
  • Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license.
  • must possess good verbal and written communications skills.
  • Physical ability to navigate campground loops, swim areas and campsites, lift 50 lbs and carry 50 lb. object 25 feet

Responsibilities

  • Assists park management and visitor assistance team in developing, organizing and presenting multi-media, multi-image, audio-visual equipment, displays and exhibits.
  • Participates in exhibit and display operations and maintenance by assuring they are working correctly and safely.
  • Participates in visitor use surveys. Collects and evaluates statistical data. Compiles this data at the end of the season, draws conclusions and makes recommendations on the basis of findings.
  • Assists Corps staff in performing repetitive tasks including visitor counts, checking parking of visitor vehicles, directing traffic, and inspecting safety equipment; hand tools, radios, and cameras may be used.
  • Performs day-to-day activities associated with forestry, fisheries, wildlife habitat assessment, pest control, pollution abatement, and soil conservation. Collects and records information on items such as water quality, sediment samples, vegetation, noxious weed control, wildlife and fish populations, and soil erosion and site rehabilitation problems.
  • Assists in first aid, boating, and evolving emergencies. Other duties as assigned.
