About The Position

The Lands Assistant (Intern) provides entry-level support to the Lands and Resources department at Chugach Alaska Corporation (CAC). This position is designed to offer hands-on experience managing Chugach Lands, including scientific research, data management and storage, site monitoring, and administrative support. The Intern will gain exposure to culturally responsive Lands & Resource practices and contribute to projects that support CAC’s mission. CTS administers this internship program on behalf of CAC. The program is specifically designed for Shareholders and Descendants of the CAC, with the goal of building long-term career pathways in cultural stewardship and heritage preservation.

Requirements

  • Chugach Alaska Corporation Shareholder or descendant of a CAC shareholder.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college as a full-time student with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or above (in each class).
  • Pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Land Management, or a related field.
  • At least one (1) year of administrative or customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated intermediate skills in the use of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Valid state Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Knowledge Of: administrative procedures, policies and practices, operation of common office machinery including copiers, fax machines, computers; and understanding of (or willingness to learn) the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) and how it impacts the Chugach Region.
  • Ability To: maintain strict confidentiality; organize and prioritize projects and complete in accordance with established deadlines; adapts to changing priorities; perform duties in a timely manner; balance multiple tasks and deal with interruptions; communicate effectively orally and in writing with a broad audience; demonstrates the ability to work with a team or independently with little or no supervision; maintain good working relationships with all coworkers and the general public; use good judgement; communicate with a variety of people in a courteous and professional manner; maintain attention to detail; and maintain a professional appearance and work presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with filing, data entry, and document preparation related to Lands data.
  • Helps research and document pertinent information about Lands in our region.
  • Assists with maintaining GIS database.
  • Supports the revision of our Land Management plan.
  • Monitors sites for trespass issues and permit/lease compliance.
  • Assists with silvicultural practices.
  • Participates in Lands-related projects and initiatives as assigned by the Vice President, Lands & Resources.
  • Supports community and regional shareholder events.
  • Attends all program participant meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
