About The Position

The Land Protection Specialist will be part of the Pennsylvania/Delaware Business Unit of The Nature Conservancy. This position will provide support to the land protection team implementing land protection activities in Pennsylvania to conserve and maintain connectivity between the Central & Northern Appalachians for climate change adaptation as well as land protection activities in Delaware to support marsh migration in response to Sea Level Rise. The Land Protection Specialist supports the implementation of Pennsylvania and Delaware land protection strategies. The Specialist will support the land protection team in implementing the strategies and employ a full range of protection tools to acquire varying degrees of legal interest in land, provide project support and coordination, and create maps using ArcGIS. The Specialist will contract and manage due diligence for acquisition projects. This person is required to work out of our Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, office three days a week, but will work across Pennsylvania and Delaware to support land acquisition efforts. This role has a projected start date of July 6, 2026.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in natural resources management, conservation, business, law or another related field of study and 3 years of related work experience in conservation, real estate or other related experience.
  • Experience with GIS software and creating maps.
  • Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Experience with communication via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in natural resource management, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High degree of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience managing, maintaining, and populating databases and manual files.
  • Experience managing multiple projects.
  • Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities.
  • Familiarity with principles of land acquisition or similar asset acquisition.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.
