About The Position

The Utility Worker is a skilled laborer who will aid tradespeople in various construction projects to ensure the efficient functioning of infrastructure to meet the operational needs of the customer. The position requires physical strength, stamina, flexibility, and the ability to work in different weather conditions. This operates under the supervision of a Foreman and assists in various tasks, including lifting & moving heavy equipment and materials, digging trenches, and excavating areas. Utility Workers must work in collaboration with team members to accomplish project objectives. Successful candidates are eager to work and can learn & grow on the job.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational training is a plus.
  • Able to use small tools such as power rake, rodder, compressor, generator, etc.
  • Experience with smaller heavy equipment.
  • 3+ years of experience in physical, outdoor work environment
  • Physical strength and ability to lift heavy objects often weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Basic understanding of how to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Outdoor work including hot, cold, wet, and dry environments.
  • Standing, bending, and walking for prolonged periods.
  • Travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in setting work areas by preparing materials and tools and cleaning up by removing debris and excess materials.
  • Use shovels, picks, and other digging tools to locate obstructions and excavate trenches for utility lines.
  • Assist skilled tradespeople install pipes, cables, and other utility lines by carrying materials, holding equipment, and performing other tasks as needed.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Operate hand and power tools such as saws, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners and jackhammers to assist in construction projects and will follow safety guidelines to avoid injury.
  • Help lift and move heavy equipment and materials such as concrete blocks, pipes, while working safely around heavy machinery.
  • Assisting skilled tradespeople prepare in laying materials such as concrete and asphalt, and will assist in smoothing and leveling the materials.
  • Keep the job site clean and organized by sweeping, picking up debris, and properly storing tools and equipment.
  • Assisting in the repair and maintenance of equipment such as generators, pumps, and compressors.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to avoid injury and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
