Find out more: Our approach to R&D The lab operations lab equipment Manager oversees capital equipment acquisitions and lifecycle management on behalf of GSK R&D Pharma and Vaccines sites in the Cambridge, MA region. The lab equipment Manager ensures compliance to lifecycle management processes throughout the lifespan of these GSK assets. The lab equipment Manager works closely with scientists to capture all user requirement specifications for each asset acquisition, asset lifecycle changes and final retirement. The lab equipment Manager is responsible for working closely with the Global CAPEX Projects Lead and scientific area leaders on capital planning, project investment plan approvals and funding. Subsequently, the lab equipment Manager ensures compliance with GSK ways of working with respect to commissioning, lifecycle changes, and final decommissioning of each asset whilst ensuring adherence to GSK engineering and EHS standards throughout the entire life cycle process. The lab equipment Manager is responsible for annual Pipette maintenance programs. The lab equipment Manager works closely with technical owners to ensure proper infrastructure is implemented for proper installation of new acquisitions and technologies. The lab equipment Manager will work closely with scientific area leaders and subject matter experts to ensure operational excellence, compliance with quality standards and regulations, and support continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • BS Scientific/Engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • Two or more years of experience managing equipment purchasing, implementation, and decommissioning.
  • Two or more years of cross functional experience in lab operations (EHS, Quality, Facilities, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure proper capital equipment acquisition process is followed from capital planning to equipment installations, equipment enrolment, , equipment lifecycle changes through end of lifecycle and final decommissioning.
  • Work closely with scientific areas and other Lab Ops teams (user requirement specifications, equipment installation and life cycle management, to equipment decommissioning, documentation management).
  • Ensure effective support is provided for equipment life cycle management within Lab Operations, by internal service partners (e.g. EHS, Facilities & Engineering, Procurement, Lab Systems/Tech, Quality), and external service providers.
  • Implement Good Scientific Practices and fit for purpose Quality System within the labs for the proper management of equipment (including quality standards, research practices, documentation, etc.) and coordinate activities to set-up labs for optimized use.
  • Support the Equipment Lead in coordinating /supporting Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) demand collection for annual 3-year plan, individual Project Investment Proposals (PIPs), and project execution (including budget tracking and invoice forecast).
  • Responsible for equipment life cycle management service delivery per KPI targets and problem/issue resolution concerning equipment life-cycle management.
  • Support the Equipment Lead in monitoring performance of Internal GSC providers (Engineering/maintenance) per agreed KPIs.
  • Coordinate activities related to pipette management and inventory (as applicable).
  • Ensure external vendors are properly trained on GSK EHS and engineering policies before performing work onsite.
  • Support LIS Manager/General Lab Support Manager for the activities related to equipment categorization and LIS service contract renewal.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for key lab operations processes/systems concerning equipment life-cycle management and support continuous improvement opportunities in the Vaccines R&D laboratories.
