Requirements

  • 2 years of college-level education in engineering, construction materials, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the materials testing industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing laboratory operations and staff.
  • Strong technical knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and accreditation requirements (ASTM, ACI, TxDOT, and ISO/IEC 17025)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical and operational challenges within a lab environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory management software.

Nice To Haves

  • ACI and ASTM certifications in soils, asphalt, concrete, and aggregates.
  • Experience serving as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) with nuclear density gauge oversight.
  • Proven success in achieving and maintaining AASHTO accreditation standards.
  • Strong track record in staff development and training.
  • Ability to implement process improvements that increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • ACI and ASTM certifications (all applicable areas)
  • Additional laboratory or radiation safety training/certifications a plus

Responsibilities

  • Direct and manage all laboratory operations to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Schedule and oversee in-lab testing activities, ensuring efficient use of staff and equipment.
  • Serve as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), including oversight of nuclear density gauges, leak testing, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Engineering to evaluate laboratory performance, identify improvements, and implement quality control measures.
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and repaired as needed.
  • Provide training and mentorship for technicians in proper laboratory procedures and testing standards.
  • Review and analyze testing reports for accuracy and completeness before submission to clients.
  • Conduct employee competency reviews and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain computer systems, software, and hardware essential to laboratory operations.
  • Promote and enforce CMT's safety standards and ensure a safe laboratory environment.
  • Overseeing audits and maintaining accreditation status.
