About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide positive environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected. Maintain a kitchen that is safe, clean and free of germs. Provide nutritious and appealing meals and snacks for children of various age groups. Acquire and maintain a food handler’s certificate. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assist the Kitchen Manager with estimating needs, receiving; and storing food and supplies. Prepare foods by performing any combination of the following tasks: Store food Record temperature of equipment Clean utensils, dishes and area Distribute and/or transport food Assist in serving food as necessary. Assist the Kitchen Manager and serve as the cook in their absence Wash dishes and silverware by hand and also using the dish washer. Clean equipment Report any broken or non-working equipment Adheres to association and position training requirements. Work various hours and locations to meet association needs. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager. Requirements

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED and be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid Drivers License & Insurance with vehicle for transport of food to other locations
  • Experience as a kitchen assistant
  • Experience in preparing food for large groups.
  • Knowledge of standard food preparation, serving, and kitchen procedures.
  • Must have CPR/AED/First Aid, and Food Handlers certification.
  • Licensing requires that all childcare staff must have 15 hours of in­-service training each year.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the YMCA.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
