About The Position

The Kitchen Aide 2 role ensures that children receive nutritious, appealing meals and snacks prepared in a sanitary and developmentally appropriate manner. This role involves teamwork, planning, preparing, and delivering meals for family-style service to the classrooms while maintaining compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and State Sanitation requirements. Additionally, the Kitchen Aide 2 staff will function as the primary kitchen staff for agency evening and weekend events, which include one of the two on-site industrial kitchens. Organizational, problem solving and communication skills are essential.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma required
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Ability to push, pull, carry, reach, walk, kneel and stand for extended periods
  • Maintain current Food Handlers Certification
  • Knowledge of USDA/CACFP, Head Start and State Sanitation compliance standards

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience in institutional food service and commercial kitchen, preferably in a non-profit environment

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and serving food items to students and agency personnel
  • Adheres to safety practices and operating equipment and/or machinery
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, utensils, dishes (including pots and pans), storage, food preparation and serving areas in a sanitary condition for the purpose of complying with agency, KCMO Health Department, CACFP and Head Start standards
  • Prepares food and beverage items for meals and snacks according to menus and worksheet instruction for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and proportioned meal requirements.
  • Must have basic cooking abilities
  • Maintains dish count and delivers meals to classrooms ready for family-style service.
  • Properly stores food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for storage and handling of foods, working with manager on maintaining organized inventory and storage; communicate product needs
  • Assist in the distribution of afternoon snacks
  • Sweep and mop floor (i.e. kitchen area, staff lunch service area, walk-in refrigerator, storeroom, office and closet) as needed throughout each day
  • Separate recyclables from garbage, then remove recyclables and garbage and place outdoors in appropriate dumpsters
  • Clean and disinfect recycling bins and garbage containers as needed.
  • Attend agency in-services and training as required
  • Adhere to timely and regular execution of the individualized work schedule
  • Performs all related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work team
