About The Position

The Kitchen Aide supports daily food service operations by assisting with meal preparation, service, and cleanup while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment. This role ensures compliance with all health, safety, and organizational guidelines and is ideal for someone passionate about serving others in a mission-driven organization making a meaningful impact in New York City.

Requirements

  • Must have completed the Board of Health (BOH) Food Preparation Course or be able to complete within first 3 months of employment.
  • Must be able to perform physical labor, lift up to 50 lbs. and spend a significant portion of the shift on their feet.
  • Capacity to learn basic tasks and to understand written and oral communications.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with seniors and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Center Director to ensure compliance with NYC Department for the Aging and NYC Board of Health regulations related to food service and facility standards

  • Prepare, handle, and serve meals; receive food deliveries and monitor temperatures upon arrival and during service
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization throughout the kitchen, dining areas, and center
  • Clean, sanitize, and store all utensils, dishes, and food service equipment
  • Wash, sanitize, and reset dining areas after meals; disinfect tables and chairs
  • Sweep and mop kitchen, dining room, and common areas
  • Set up and break down dining and program spaces, including tables, chairs, and equipment
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and required trainings
  • Perform additional tasks and special projects as assigned by the Center Director, designee, or Director of Senior Services
  • Participate in regular supervision with supervisor
  • Attend required trainings as necessary
