About The Position

The Halal Blesser is responsible for performing and overseeing the slaughter of cattle in accordance with Islamic dietary laws (Shariah) and facility operational standards. This role ensures that all animals designated for Halal production are slaughtered properly, respectfully, and in strict compliance with Halal certification requirements, USDA regulations, and company policies. The Halal Blesser serves as the religious authority on the harvest floor for Halal production and works closely with plant management and quality assurance teams to maintain certification integrity.

Requirements

  • Practicing Muslim in good standing with knowledge of Islamic dietary laws related to slaughter.
  • Thorough understanding of Halal slaughter requirements.
  • Ability to recite the required Islamic blessing properly and consistently.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, and physically demanding environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and integrity in religious compliance.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early shifts and overtime when required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments.
  • Comfortable working around livestock and processing equipment.
  • Must meet requirements of the facility’s Halal certification agency.
  • Must comply with all USDA, HACCP, and company safety standards.
  • Participation in ongoing Halal compliance verification as required.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing with similar environment preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in meat processing or slaughter operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the Halal slaughter of cattle in accordance with Islamic law, including: Recitation of the required blessing (Tasmiyah) Ensuring proper method of slaughter (swift cut to trachea, esophagus, and major blood vessels)
  • Verify that each animal is alive and eligible for Halal slaughter at the time of cut.
  • Ensure segregation of Halal and non-Halal products in accordance with certification requirements.
  • Work in coordination with USDA inspectors and QA personnel during production.
  • Maintain accurate documentation required by Halal certification bodies.
  • Monitor equipment used in Halal slaughter to ensure proper function.
  • Immediately report any non-conformance or deviation from Halal standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitary practices according to plant SSOP and HACCP programs.
  • Assist in Halal audits and inspections by certification agencies.
  • Train or assist in training personnel regarding Halal handling requirements as needed.
