About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS Arkansas represents our first expansion beyond Arizona, and we are excited to serve students and families in the Little Rock community. The School Counselor plays a critical role in supporting students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development while collaborating with staff and families to create a safe and supportive learning environment. This role provides direct counseling services, supports character development programs, and helps ensure students are equipped to succeed both academically and personally.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Education, Psychology, or related field
  • Valid Arkansas School Counselor certification/licensure
  • Strong knowledge of student support services and counseling practices
  • Arkansas State Background Check
  • Child Maltreatment Central Registry Check
  • Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) required background clearance and fingerprinting

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in school counseling or mental health services
  • Experience working in Title I or high-need school environments
  • Experience delivering professional development or staff training
  • Familiarity with character education programs (e.g., Character Strong)
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to support diverse student populations

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students
  • Deliver counseling services aligned to 504 plans and IEP requirements as assigned
  • Identify and support high-risk students through structured interventions
  • Set goals with students to build social-emotional skills and academic success
  • Assess and respond to students in crisis situations
  • Collaborate with administration and external resources when needed
  • Maintain accurate records of counseling services and student progress
  • Support implementation of school-wide character development programs (e.g., Character Strong)
  • Provide training and guidance to teachers and staff on student support strategies
  • Serve as a resource for social-emotional learning and behavioral support
  • Partner with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success
  • Participate in school events, meetings, and professional development
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture
