About The Position

Under the supervision of the K–8 Assistant Directors and in alignment with Board of Trustees policies, the Reading Specialist leads Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s Reading Intervention Program. This role focuses on supporting students—primarily in Grades K–6, with potential involvement through Grade 8, who demonstrate deficiencies in reading and language acquisition. The Reading Specialist works directly with at-risk or below-grade-level students, using data-driven strategies and evidence-based instruction to help students achieve grade-level proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or certification in reading, literacy, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role preferred

Responsibilities

  • Identify students in need of reading and language intervention through analysis of internal and external assessment data
  • Develop and implement targeted intervention strategies aligned with school-approved curricula
  • Provide direct instruction to at-risk students throughout the school day, based on an established schedule
  • Support additional students as they are identified or enroll throughout the school year
  • Communicate with families of at-risk students to discuss progress and facilitate enrollment in intervention services
  • Prepare and distribute quarterly progress reports in coordination with report cards
  • Attend and contribute to parent-teacher conferences
  • Utilize Direct Instruction (DI) programs whenever applicable for intervention
  • When DI is not applicable, maintain fidelity to school-approved programs aligned with Core Knowledge
  • Refrain from introducing or developing new curriculum without proper review and approval
  • Collaborate closely with fellow Reading Specialists and classroom teachers to ensure instructional consistency and alignment
  • Support school operations through supplemental duties as assigned by the Assistant Directors
  • Contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on student success
