The Junior Tax Accountant provides essential support in maintaining U.S. state and local tax compliance across all jurisdictions where the company operates. This position is responsible for assisting with property tax and sales and use tax reporting, managing sales tax permits and license registrations, maintaining business licenses and certificates, and overseeing tax resale and exemption certificates. The role also includes preparing annual surveys and census reports and ensuring timely and accurate compliance with all applicable state and local tax requirements.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or related field is preferred
  • One to three years’ experience with Sales and Use Tax, Property Tax and Business Licensing is preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel (i.e. VLOOKUP, pivot tables, advanced formulas)
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy is required
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Proven ability in complex problem solving and use of solid judgment skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, filing, payment, and internal billing of all property tax returns for all entities in all jurisdictions
  • Assist with maintaining accurate and up-to-date property information for each business location
  • Assist with opening and closing property tax accounts as needed to ensure compliance based on current property occupancy
  • Assist with the research and resolution of tax notices for all entities, including collecting and distributing related incoming mail
  • Collaborate with third-party providers to gather, upload, and review all sales and use tax data and filings for all entities in all state and local jurisdictions
  • Assist with the registration and renewal of sales tax permits and licenses for all entities
  • Assist with obtaining, distributing, and paying all business licenses and certificates across all applicable jurisdictions
  • Assist with tracking the status and renewal dates of all business licenses and certificates ensuring compliance in all locations
  • Assist with obtaining and maintaining all tax resale and exemption certificates for all qualifying entities
  • Prepare and submit all annual surveys and census reports as required
  • Complete all other tasks and projects assigned by management
