About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Staff Accountant to support our accounting operations with a primary focus on payroll and benefits accounting, while also contributing to broader accounting functions. This role is ideal for an early-career accounting professional looking to grow their technical skills across payroll, benefits, and general accounting in a collaborative environment. Approximately 50–60% of this role will be dedicated to payroll and benefits-related responsibilities, with the remaining time supporting other accounting activities such as software billing, expense reporting, reconciliations, and month-end support. This position is not limited to payroll processing and offers exposure to multiple areas of accounting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in accounting, payroll, or a related role
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and general ledger concepts
  • Experience supporting or processing payroll (directly or indirectly)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with Excel (basic formulas, lookups preferred)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of payroll, payroll tax and human resource procedures and laws
  • Knowledge of appropriate laws, codes, standards and reporting requirements related to employee benefits and insurance programs
  • Experience with ADP Workforce payroll and benefits administration platforms

Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing multi-state payroll accurately and on time
  • Support payroll journal entries and ensure payroll expenses are recorded correctly in the general ledger
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Assist with benefits administration support, including:
  • Health, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefit deductions
  • Coordination with HR and benefits vendors
  • Support during open enrollment and benefits audits
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll and benefits records
  • Assist with payroll tax filings, reporting, and compliance support
  • Respond to employee payroll and benefits questions in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist with software billing, invoicing, and revenue-related accounting tasks
  • Support expense reporting, review, and reconciliation
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly account reconciliations
  • Prepare journal entries under supervision
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation
  • Help maintain accounting records in accordance with company policies and GAAP
  • Participate in process improvements and documentation of accounting procedures
