About The Position

Linxon, built on over a century of innovation and decades of substation expertise, combines AtkinsRéalis’ project management strength with Hitachi Energy’s technological leadership. The company delivers high-performing EPC solutions to strengthen the power grid, supporting community growth and industrial development through end-to-end engineering, procurement, management, and construction services for complex AC substation and electrification projects across five core markets. As a Junior SME Civil Engineering with Linxon, you will be a key contributor to the successful delivery of civil and structural engineering solutions for AIS and GIS substations (11kV–550kV), battery energy storage systems, and renewable energy substations across wind and solar portfolios. Your work, from early design development through construction support and project closeout, will directly impact safety, constructability, schedule certainty, cost efficiency, and long-term asset performance. Embedded within the Linxon Americas Engineering Team, you will collaborate across disciplines, apply engineering fundamentals to real-world infrastructure challenges, and progressively build the technical depth and project accountability required to grow into a Senior Civil Engineer, SME, or Lead Engineer role within 3–5 years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a strong foundation in civil and structural engineering principles.
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience through internships, graduate roles, or junior engineering positions within infrastructure, energy, power, or industrial environments.
  • Fundamental understanding of geotechnical reports, site investigations, earthworks, grading, drainage, and basic concrete and steel design concepts.
  • Exposure to structural analysis tools such as STAAD and/or SAP2000 through academic or professional use.
  • Experience or coursework using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Revit to support coordinated design development.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills and attention to detail, enabling accurate calculations, clear documentation, and reliable engineering outputs.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take on increasing responsibility as you grow into a technical SME role.
  • Interest in developing long‑term expertise in substations, renewable energy, and grid infrastructure projects.
  • EIT / Engineer‑in‑Training status or are actively progressing toward professional licensure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish, enabling effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, development, and delivery of civil and structural design packages, carrying work from concept and preliminary design through detailed engineering and issued‑for‑construction drawings to enable successful project execution.
  • Review and validate substation layouts and site arrangements from early design through final approval to ensure constructability, spatial coordination, regulatory compliance, and efficient use of site constraints.
  • Perform quantity take‑offs and material estimates from design models and drawings, supporting accurate cost forecasts, procurement planning, and scope control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop earthworks, grading, and drainage designs that address site conditions, constructability, environmental considerations, and long‑term operability from pre‑design through construction support.
  • Complete basic foundation and structural calculations, applying engineering principles to steel and concrete systems that ensure safety, code compliance, and durability from design development through technical review.
  • Prepare and review steel and concrete structure detailing, ensuring drawings are buildable, coordinated, and aligned with construction sequencing and field execution needs.
  • Apply company standards, project specifications, and industry codes while progressively building independent engineering judgment and technical accountability under senior engineer guidance.
  • Identify and propose opportunities for design efficiency, constructability improvements, and cost optimization, contributing to better project outcomes through collaborative technical review and implementation.
  • Participate in technical, interdisciplinary, and constructability reviews, helping identify risks early and supporting solutions that protect safety, schedule, and quality.
  • Assist with engineering effort estimates and forecasting inputs, enabling accurate resource planning and alignment between scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborate with electrical, BIM, and electro‑mechanical engineers to ensure fully coordinated designs that integrate civil works seamlessly with overall substation systems.
  • Participate in hazard identification (HAZID) sessions and design coordination meetings, supporting risk mitigation and safer project delivery from design through execution.
  • Provide design clarification and technical support to construction and site teams, helping resolve issues, manage changes, and maintain progress during execution.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain engineering documentation in line with Linxon quality processes, ensuring accuracy, consistency, traceability, and audit readiness.
  • Support customer and technical assurance reviews by preparing responses, updating documentation, and ensuring design comments are closed efficiently and accurately.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to respond to technical queries and integrate external inputs into the overall engineered solution.
  • Work under the mentorship of line managers, senior engineers, and technical specialists, translating feedback into continuous skill development and increasing technical ownership.
  • Manage assigned work packages to completion, ensuring deliverables meet agreed scope, schedule, and budget commitments.
  • Actively participate in training, technical development, and knowledge‑sharing initiatives, steadily building expertise and credibility as a future civil engineering SME.
