About The Position

To provide leadership in the operation of the school by assisting the principal in providing instructional leadership for the school staff.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid Mid-Management certification
  • Certified in the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS)
  • Pass Bilingual or ESL exam through the Texas Education Agency. After two unsuccessful testing attempts, employee must attend 6 hours of ELL professional learning provided by the MISD’s ELL Department. Must be completed by the end of the first contract year.
  • Three years experience as a successful classroom teacher
  • Three years experience in instructional leadership role
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching
  • Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal
  • Ability to work well with a diverse
  • Knowledge of student coding and PEIMS data and database

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate instruction within classrooms, assess the effectiveness of the instructional program, and initiate improvements as appropriate.
  • Assist in evaluating instructional materials and recommend the most appropriate items available for the purpose of facilitating effective instruction.
  • Promote the active involvement of teachers in curriculum development and implementation.
  • Assist in providing curriculum coordination and balance.
  • Assist in interpreting grading policies for students.
  • Coordinate special programs and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Assist principal in tracking and maintaining accurate PEIMS data, including leaver coding.
  • Coordinate Junior High transition
  • Assist in maintaining a school atmosphere which promotes effective learning
  • Assist teachers, where necessary, in becoming sensitive to the needs, interests, and feelings of students.
  • Assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Participate in planning and revising the school handbook and other school publications.
  • Assist in the development of the master schedule for the school.
  • Assist in the maintenance of required forms and student records.
  • Participate with the principal in developing and implementing school policies.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff; serve as appraiser in the T-TESS.
  • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new instructional staff.
  • Assist in selecting, assigning, training, supervising, and evaluating the performance of support professional staff, including counselors and assistant principals.
  • Assist in orienting new teachers, including but not limited to mentoring and T-TESS.
  • Assist with inventories and with the ordering and distribution supplies.
  • Assist in the administration and organization of business affairs, especially the development of school budgets.
  • Assist in coordinating the use, maintenance, security, and repair of the school building, equipment, and grounds.
  • Assist in the organization and coordination of transportation which services the school.
  • Assist in the administration and supervision of the cafeteria.
  • Assist in grouping and assigning pupils to classes.
  • Share responsibility for the direction of school calendar, activities program, and assemblies.
  • Assist with campus testing.
  • Assist in student disciplinary matters.
  • Assist principal and faculty to ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Promote the understanding and implementation of the Midland Independent School District's philosophy, goals, and objectives.
  • Assist in the articulation and coordination of the educational program.
  • Assist in planning, evaluating, and leading faculty, departmental, grade-group, and/or parent meetings.
  • Initiate and maintain appropriate communication with parents.
  • Assist in coordinating activities of the various school advisory committees and the PTA.
  • Formulate, with the principal, an annual Assistant Principal Professional Development Plan.
  • Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
  • Use information and insights provided through assessment instruments, the district appraisal process, evaluative feedback from line supervisors, and professional development programs to improve performance.
  • Provide leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursue professional development activities; disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.
  • Supervise the feeder pattern’s high school summer school and TAKS preparation/remediation program.
  • Serve as the high school summer testing coordinator for TAKS and EOC.
  • Coordinate and supervise summer program activities for the high school feeder pattern, including hiring, monitoring, and evaluating teachers.
  • Supervise the summer EOC preparation/remediation program.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of personnel as assigned.
