About The Position

The Junior Graphic Designer / Prepress & Platemaking Trainee supports both digital artwork preparation and flexographic plate production. This entry-level role bridges graphic design and manufacturing by preparing accurate, press-ready files and assisting with the creation of flexographic printing plates. This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career designer who is eager to learn print production, flexographic prepress, and platemaking workflows. The role emphasizes training, mentorship, and long-term growth, with a strong focus on precision, consistency, and technical execution.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop (academic or internship experience acceptable)
  • Basic understanding of graphic design fundamentals (layout, typography, color)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented processes
  • Willingness to learn technical prepress and platemaking systems
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment
  • Clear communication and a positive, coachable attitude
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 60 lbs
  • Flexibility to work overtime as production demands require

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework, internship, or exposure to print production or prepress
  • Familiarity with CMYK vs RGB concepts
  • Interest in flexographic printing, packaging, or label production
  • Exposure to Esko software (ArtPro+, Automation Engine) or similar systems
  • Background in manufacturing, production, or quality-focused environments

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing digital artwork for print production using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Interpret job tickets, basic color separations, and plate specifications with guidance and training
  • Support the imaging and production of flexographic printing plates using digital imaging units and exposure systems
  • Inspect plates and artwork for accuracy, identifying defects or imaging-related issues
  • Collaborate with Prepress, Quality, Press, and Production teams to resolve file or production questions
  • Maintain organized digital files, job documentation, and production records
  • Follow all safety policies, SOPs, and PPE requirements
  • Perform basic equipment cleaning and assist with routine maintenance as trained
  • Trim digital proofs for internal review or customer presentation
  • Assist with organizing upcoming jobs to support production schedules
  • Support continuous improvement efforts within prepress and plate workflows
  • Learn internal systems, workflows, and quality standards
