About The Position

Tyto Athene is searching for a Junior Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) to support the National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC). This role is ideal for early-career cybersecurity professionals who want to build expertise in Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST 800-53 controls, and DoD cybersecurity policies. The Junior ISSO will work under the guidance of senior ISSOs to assist with system security documentation, continuous monitoring, and control implementation in a classified SAP environment.

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience in cybersecurity, IT security, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, risk management processes, and basic security best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of security tools (vulnerability scanners, SIEM, endpoint protection).
  • Ability to obtain IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CySA+, GSEC) within 6 months of hire.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to work onsite in a classified environment.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with SAP eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience or coursework with RMF, DISA STIGs, vulnerability scanning, or system hardening.
  • Familiarity with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GovCloud) or IC-specific environments.
  • Exposure to scripting or automation tools for security compliance (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Interest in growing technical and operational expertise in SAP/IC cybersecurity environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining cybersecurity compliance for SAP/IC information systems in accordance with RMF, NIST 800-53, DoD 8500-series, and DISA STIGs.
  • Support preparation and maintenance of security documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and risk assessments.
  • Help monitor security controls, conduct vulnerability assessments, and track remediation in POA&Ms.
  • Collaborate with senior ISSOs, system administrators, and cybersecurity teams to maintain system authorization and operational security.
  • Participate in security testing, audits, and continuous monitoring activities.
  • Assist in implementing and managing security tools such as ACAS, HBSS, Nessus, SIEM solutions, and auditing platforms.
  • Support security awareness training and enforcement of user access controls.
