About The Position

INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESS: The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments. Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent plus completion of technical training program. Five (5) years of experience as a Technician at the Journeyman level to include a minimum of 3(years) of experience on enterprise class telephone systems are required. Must be skilled in the use of tools, machines, and diagnostic test equipment required to troubleshoot and maintain electronic/electrical systems and equipment. External hires will complete a minimum of six months at the apprentice level; demonstrated ability to perform the Journeyman work will qualify the new hire for assignment to Journeyman level. NOTE: This posting is to fill the current vacancy and to establish an eligibility list to fill any future vacancies that may occur in the next 6 months. Additional Requirements (Internal/External Candidates) Summary: Responsible for the predictive and preventive maintenance of Marta’s communication infrastructure equipment, telephone instruments, telephone and network wiring, public address systems and other related systems and equipment. Prepares all required maintenance reports, work orders, and labor time entry in accordance with Facilities Maintenance departmental protocol and Communications, Computer & Faregate Branch requirements. Performs software changes and equipment modifications to improve operating efficiency. Performs maintenance on the Solus and IP-7 Consoles, effectively utilizes FaSuite systems. Provides excellent customer service responding to complaints from customers (internal and external) within two days. Subspecialties: Within the Journeyman Electronic Technician-Telephone Maintenance classification, two subspecialties--Fiber Optics and Multi-Media-- require the following specialized duties and additional qualifications: Fiber Optics (Summary): Performs routine and preventive maintenance and repair of MARTA’s system wide fiber optic network. Install new fiber optic cable, installs fusion splices, and terminates fiber optic connectors, initiates performance testing and reports finding in a comprehensive and professional manner. Inspects and performs preventive maintenance on all enterprise fiber optic cabling and support equipment. Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. Three years of directly related work experience or Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certification, and repair of all telecommunications and enterprise network systems. Candidate must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of fiber optic repair and maintenance. Current skill level will be determined by formal testing and evaluation. Multi Media (Summary): Performs routine and preventive maintenance and repair of MARTA’s system wide public address infrastructure. Repairs, inspects, installs, and/or replaces equipment to include digital and analog signal processors, amplifiers, speakers, projectors LCD monitors, projector screens, microphones and any associated wiring or wireless technology. Must be proficient in live sound engineering, testing and adjustment of digital and analog studio mixers. Also performs general maintenance and repairs on all telephony infrastructure and equipment, as required. Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. Three years of directly related work experience, equivalent certification or degree in directly associated field of study. Candidate must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of audio visual engineering. Current skill level will be determined by formal testing and evaluation. Also performs general maintenance and repairs on all telephony infrastructure and equipment, as required. Certification/diploma/degree in a formalized technical training program. Must have an Unrestricted Low Voltage License. Must possess a valid State of Georgia issued driver's license and a maximum of one (1) moving violation, with a maximum of three (3) points on Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) within a 24-month period. No DUI violations allowed. Note: MARTA is a Drug Free Workplace. Participation in MARTA's Drug & Alcohol Program is a condition of employment. Failure to adhere to MARTA's Drug & Alcohol Program will result in termination. Every MARTA employee is responsible for reading and observing the requirements of the Drug & Alcohol policy.
