About The Position

The IT Technician supports, maintains, and improves GPB’s computer systems, networks, and overall technology infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure day-to-day operations. This role works closely with the IT team to install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and related technology services, while providing responsive technical support to employees across departments. The IT Technician serves as a primary point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, performing routine maintenance and system updates, and assisting with technology improvements that enhance performance, security, and accessibility. Strong customer service and communication skills are essential, as this role partners with users at all levels of the organization to understand needs, diagnose problems, and deliver effective solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in related area; five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and/or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other employees, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate basic math figures and amounts.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of various operation systems and various network software and hardware products.
  • Should also have working knowledge of configuring firewall polices and setting up firewalls, servers, PCs, and any type of software.
  • This position may require long periods of standing or sitting and may include long periods of typing and repetitive motion.
  • Candidates must possess the ability to lift and carry cash drawers, coin bags, and boxes sometimes weighing as much as 25 pounds.
  • All employees are required to attend training as required by GPB, as well as support the overall compliance program by complying with all laws, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair, and support IT equipment, components, and systems to ensure continuous functionality and minimal downtime.
  • Provide responsive technical support to employees across departments, resolving issues related to hardware, software, operating systems, and peripherals.
  • Verify that computers, applications, devices, and network services are operating properly; identify and resolve performance or functionality issues.
  • Install, configure, deploy, and upgrade computer hardware, software, operating systems, and approved applications.
  • Prepare and configure equipment for new users, including workstation setup, account access coordination, and required software installation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system errors, equipment failures, connectivity issues, and device configuration problems (wired and wireless).
  • Diagnose and address issues involving printers, scanners, phones (if applicable), and other peripheral devices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and asset/equipment assignments.
  • Support and assist with LAN/WAN and Wi-Fi connectivity, including basic network troubleshooting and coordination with vendors/ISPs as needed.
  • Assist with server and infrastructure support, including installation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of on-prem and/or virtual environments.
  • Support and maintain security systems and tools (e.g., antivirus/endpoint protection, firewall monitoring) and follow IT security best practices.
  • Perform operating system updates, patches, and routine maintenance to keep systems current, secure, and stable.
  • Install, test, and monitor approved software deployments and upgrades; validate functionality after changes.
  • Perform scheduled data backups and verify backup integrity; assist with recovery procedures when needed.
  • Apply system and network improvements and participate in technology initiatives that increase reliability, security, and performance.
  • Communicate clearly with employees and department leaders regarding issue status, expected resolution, and preventative practices.
  • Assist with maintaining IT standards, procedures, and basic user guidance/training for commonly used systems and tools.
  • Research and recommend hardware/software solutions when appropriate, supporting IT leadership with input on upgrades and replacements.
  • Support Microsoft 365 administration tasks (e.g., user access support, email troubleshooting) and assist with hybrid/on-prem email environments if applicable.
  • Assist with virtualization platforms and virtual server administration tasks under direction of IT leadership.
  • Support firewall rule requests and security changes under established approval and change-control processes.
